Mac Demarco is a Canada-born, Los Angeles-based, musician and in my humble opinion, one of the most influential artists of the 2010s. As an 18 year old I quickly fell in love with the fun, charming, and warm sound that Mac refers to as "jizz-jazz", and it’s been a pleasure to age with his music over the last decade. I’m also a fierce defender of the slow, sparse, and melancholy Here Comes The Cowboy which felt like a conscious rejection of his crazy live persona and a good-bye to the more upbeat jangle-pop sound. Mac is going even further in this direction with his lovely new instrumental record, Five Easy Hot Dogs (out January 20th), that’s made up of songs he recorded in different cities while on a road trip. Lucky for us, Mac is here to tell us what he’s been into.
