Jack Corbett

Jack Corbett is an Ohio-born, Los Angeles-based videographer, musician, and actor, best known for the surrealist educational content he made for Planet Money’s Tiktok account that had him dubbed “internet’s favorite economics hottie” by Nicolaia Rips for Interview Magazine. He started as an intern for NPR’s Tiny Desk series in 2019 but really found his stride with the chaotic & crudely animated videos that earned him a Murrow award for Excellence in Innovation. As a musician he’s toured grandma & The Crooks, and Jack also tells me that before the strike he made a jump into acting and will be in two ~mysterious feature films~ that he doesn’t know if he can talk about yet but I’m excited. Lucky for us, Jack is here to tell us what he’s been into.

Unlike Depths of Wikipedia, this page highlights wikipedia mundane surface-level articles: Stuff like “Hat”, “Worm”, “Bus Driver”, “Bed”. Not everyone can be deep.

Donating one pint “burns” 650 calories. That’s 71 sour patch kids. Plus they say it helps people. I do it all the time.

I found this song on tiktok. Either the gun shots, the windchime, … something about this song is the perfect key that unlocks, in my brain, bliss.

I think this is the most brilliant educational video series ever made. Every tiktok I try to make something as fun and weird. It’s so good that Pitchfork canceled it after 6 episodes. The animator is named Joren Cull.

I fell into an obsession this year. The second you start learning the annoying 2-letter scrabble words “JO” “ZA” “QI” “KI” “XI” your girlfriend will stop playing with you. Now I watch Scrabble Competition Highlight reels and play strangers online. My username is jackcorbett48 someone challenge me.

There is nothing cowardly about it - some things must be ephemeral. The coward is the screen-shotter. Don’t take a picture of the shooting star, watch it vanish.

My mom’s an artist. I grew up with hundreds of these pens around the house. I am not subtle, I need Thick Dark lines; I hate writing with #2 pencils (HB). I need 2B or darker.

I made an account on here to look at an economics-related Question and Answer, but now I regularly get emailed user questions. Often I realize that these questions are thing’s I’ve been wondering too. Examples from my recent inbox -------->

I don’t like buying new clothes, but when I have to, buying slightly damaged socks that wouldn’t otherwise make it to market feels less bad. LA Apparel sells their screw ups here - marketed as one-of-a-kind - I saw one where the shirt pocket was down at the torso, one where it’s splattered with bleach, some just have holes in them or the neck is too tight. To me, that’s awesome. I don’t care if it’s busted.
