I really love this youtube channel @5ninthavenueproject that’s an archive of the “vlogs” before vlogs existed by Nelson Sullivan, a queer personality in NYC in the 80s and 90s. His filmwork includes these really beautiful close-up and unedited portraits of gay nightlife and the chaos and humor that ensued. Lady Bunny, RuPaul, Larry Tee, Michael Alig, and Sylvia Miles are all featured. It’s such an interesting perspective of an era that is usually so zeroed in on the darkness of the HIV/AIDS crisis, which of course still seeps in sometimes, but this lens is centered on living. It’s just so good.
