Body Meat is the genre-defying project of the Philadelphia born NY-based musician Chris Taylor. His experimental sound bounces from electronic and nu-metal to IDM and glitch pop, and I was first introduced to his music in 2022 from his Injury Reserve collaboration Ghost, and it was cool to see him pop up on Coco & Clair Clair’s (PI #366) Be With U remix with Deto Black (PI #320) last year. His approach is as dynamic as his music and he marked the release of his single North Side (a track reminiscent of a video game soundtrack itself) with a real game that he developed that “takes place within the song”, which is available for download here. His debut album Starchris comes out on August 23rd, and until then he’s dropped some singles for you to enjoy. Our New York readers can catch him play a headline show this Wednesday, August 7th at Purgatory. Lucky for us, Chris is here to tell us what he’s been into.

Something so pure about hitting a drum, it feels good in every way. Immediate sound. You have to use your whole body if you have multiple. It’s just like dancing. Highly recommend.

I always learn so much from playing Yoko Taro's games but this one hit like nothing I’ve experienced before. It actually pushed me to finish my album. It’s such a beautifully confusing story. A tale of androids and machines questioning if they are actually alive or not. With this you have to beat it multiple times to experience the entire thing. (Endings A-E) One alternate ending can be found within minutes of starting the game. The credits even roll but at triple speed. The hardest one to get “Ending E” took me about 40 hours over the course of a few months and It’s one of the greatest endings in any type of media period in my opinion. I won’t dare spoil it. If you like weird games and if you like beautiful strange stories about existentialism please play this

I love this movie so much. Satoshi Kon was a real genius. A great movie about chosen family and resilience. My wife and I watch it once a year around the holidays. I cry every time.

I do one at least once a year as a sort of mind body soul reset. Primarily natural vistas / mountain areas, ideally something outside of this country. Those are the best ones for me. Ambiguous looking pieces, always go sky first if there is any. Really calming stuff.
🍩
I am an Apple fritter guy through and through. Microwave for 30 seconds if you can. On tour if we walk into a gas station it’s hard to exit the place without one.
🚶
Truly try to make time for this. It’s simple. No matter what happened that day the walk is always nice. And if you do it with someone you love it feels even better.
