Brent David Freaney

✝️ Real Talk Kim, 🚶🏻 Embracing the latter-day New York, 📺 MTV’s The Real World Seasons 1 thru 9, and more.

Brent David Freaney is a NYC-based artist and designer, best known for founding the creative-tech company Special Offer. You might know them from their collaboration with Charli XCX & Imogene Strauss on the instantly iconic brat album cover + branding for the SWEAT tour, or from their bountiful list of clients and collaborators that range from Louis Vuitton, to SOPHIE. Brent and Special Offer also came up with the design identity for the Perfectly Imperfect / PI.FYI site. I wanted to work with someone who would think outside the box and help us come up with something special, and they totally nailed it. It feels reminiscent of the early Internet, but not in an overly nostalgic way, and most importantly, it doesn't look like every other rounded corners 500 shades of grey social site out there. Most recently, Brent’s designed and launched MYTHMagazine.com with stylist Haley Wollens. Brent’s got a great taste, and lucky for us, he’s here to tell us what he’s been into.

MTV’s The Real World Seasons 1 thru 9
If you’ve never watched The Real World stop everything you are doing immediately and begin streaming. It is OK to skip seasons 2 and 8 but it is NOT ok to skip season 9. It is OK to skip everything after Season 9. The Season 1 house is now the Prada store in Soho. Seasons 4 thru 6 are truly goldmines for Mens Style references. I spent my Freshman year of high school sitting outside of the Season 9 house braiding hemp necklaces for the cast, begging them to notice me.

Not Reading Books is OK
Stop reading just to keep up with a utopian idea of yourself. I am here to tell you that IT IS OK NOT TO READ. Who cares …… I haven’t read a full book in ten years. I used to feel immense shame around this… would force myself to read things I didn’t enjoy. I read a lot in my 20s. Maybe I’ll read a lot in my 40s. My 30s? Not so much and that’s ok w me.

I think Christianity is about to re-enter culture in a very big way. WWJD is coming for the girls and they are truly not ready. We’re about to all be gagged. It’s about to be Judgment Day in Dimes Square. My friend Martine has been saying “I want what God wants” and - you know what - me too. Real Talk Kim is my favorite Instagram account. Something so cozy about her voice that reminds me of home. It’s so sweet. Embracing the latter-day New York
Rather than harping on about how great/cool New York “used to be”, I’ve been trying to find the silver lining in what New York has become in its present–day. Thankful 4 all the memories of yesteryear of course. BUT there are also some pretty fuckin nice things that have come along since. AND there are some pretty fuckin great places that are still around. So stop complaining! (Directed at myself, mainly)
