Perfume Genius is the musical moniker of Los Angeles-based musician Mike Hadreas. Perfume Genius as a project was born in 2008, and he put out his highly acclaimed debut record Learning in 2010. Since then, the Grammy-nominated experimental/art pop musician has collaborated with artists like Phoebe Bridgers and Christine and The Queens, brands like Prada, and released six more studio albums. His latest record, Glory, dropped earlier this year, and you can check it out here. Perfume Genius goes on tour next month with support from Urika’s Bedroom and Storefront Church. Until then, Mike is here to tell us what he’s been into.

I’ve spent so much time in this world that it feels like my hometown now. I know who’s around every corner, I know where I can go to be alone

Her record from 2020. Underrated. Some really brilliant moments. The lyrics are bonkers I love it

I can eat an entire pizza from there and still come out poised, quiet and almost reverent. I don’t know how they do it

It’s short, I read it in one sitting and it seasoned the next few days. Everything felt off, like there were undercurrents you couldn’t see

I love the mall, I feel serene there. I like to sit quietly in the food court or just wander around. It’s very calming. I like that I can go into a store but I don’t have to. I can just be there, I can have a treat. The temperature is always good.
