Presented by Patreon and Perfectly Imperfect
January 13, 2026

Buzzy start of the year, isn’t it? The roundups are out, here come the whispers about what’s in.
To get a sense of where the culture is moving, we teamed up with Patreon and asked our friends, readers, and past guests — who will carve out new spaces on the internet? who will run local scenes? who will score big?
In classic PI fashion, we ended up with a mix of local legends who’ve been slowly building motion for years, bold newcomers mixing mediums, and lucky stars who blew up last year and are cooking up the next thing.
Take this as a friendly challenge rather than another hot talent list. Spot an interesting scene? Join it. Bump into a wild new niche? Dive into it. Don’t see a group or a person you love? Plug them!
Without further ado, here’s what the future tastes like ~

There isn’t one right path to making it. Better yet, some create their own by bending rules and blending styles in ways only they could.
Here are the people who keep blowing you away with how they do things:
💻
you've probably seen his work already but if not, you most definitely have seen things influenced by him. one of the most creative graphic designers out right now tbh. while he's most well-known right for drawing inspiration from surveillance UI for his events posters, he is always on the hunt on how to really turn the mundane and every day and elevate it in a design. it's actually really annoying how fucking creative he is because he makes things that make me think like "damn... why didn't I think of that" also he's funny af.
😃
We love Gretchen & Coumba. They took Sylvie in when she was down and out in New York (city), and made our podcast music in exchange for a lift to the turtle sanctuary. They are also the best musicians of our geneneration.
😃
Probably the most exciting person posting on Instagram / TikTok right now. Watch this video and you just know she's a star. It’s really cool to see how much she has blown up in only a few months and I can’t wait to see what she does in the future. Hopefully a collab with Solange, since she’s always in her comments.
🎼
dude has such a fascinating backstory and that’s probably why his music is so beautiful
📽️
Today, i finally got the chance to watch Grace Retiers hunger games parody and everyone please watch it immediately. Watching the parody felt like returning to time of the internet, that I thought was gone forever. Internet comedy is so back and we have Grace Reiter to thank for it.

Self-promo is important, but so is sharing the spotlight and repping the places and people that formed you. Part of the fun in making anything is the community around it.
Here are the people you’ve watched amplify new voices and energize local scenes:
🎧
Having existed in DIY music and organizing for most of my adult life, I've seen a lot of people (specifically dudes) get away with a lot of bullshit. It was only once I came to New York that I felt like dudes in music actually had to be great individuals to do what they're doing. Max Ludlow at Montez Press Radio does all sorts of organizing and plays a huge part in keeping the scene alive. It's truly a fresh of breathe air to find such an inviting and well-intended soul in a position to elevate community. Max is one of the most universally beloved people, and does such important work. A friend of mine deep into diy music pockets around the country had once told me about Max that "anywhere you go, people are talking about him with so much love." I thought that was really significant.

Uhaul Gallery is one of those rare projects that genuinely rethinks access and visibility in the art world. By using a moving truck as an exhibition space, it sidesteps institutional gatekeeping and brings work directly into public circulation, collapsing distinctions between sanctioned art spaces and everyday environments. Come for the art, stay for the framed parking tickets, silly Instagram stories, and brutalist merch.
🌟
It’s been so incredible to watch her write some of the most important culture profiles this year 🤍 her writing is special and she is only getting started!!
✍️
In a lane of his own, writing in the intersection of music, internet and the culture at large. He is asking all the right questions -- the ones we are all curious about and the ones the industry likes to avoid.
🎞️
I love love love what she is doing with The Downtown Festival. So important for the young and fun local filmmaker community
🎨
Been following him since 2021 ish? And somehow he keeps making new things that blow my mind, one bugger than other. Loving the nano mp3 stuff

Not everything’s got to be serious though, fun is a key ingredient of culture and life.
Here are the people who’ve kept you “smiling through it all” this past year (and their whimsy powers are only growing stronger with time):
👫
Watching The Lore for the first time feels like a fever dream now…I’m so glad they are getting to do cool things
🚲
errands is a show about the most mundane parts of life—buying chairs, fixing CD players, hunting for wigs, going to church, selling books at Molasses—and somehow turning them into tiny epics. Host Noah Blau directs and edits each episode with this hyper-specific humor and warmth that makes every errand feel like a character study, a comedy sketch, and a love letter to NYC all at once. It’s the only thing keeping short-form video from fully rotting. Everyone I know is so excited about this new show on social media and it's been a minute since everyone got this excited over a series of reels :,)

Ok, so I'm not the biggest podcast girlie but Straight Diva keeps popping up on my feed and honestly, it's hilarious ! The hosts have the best chemistry, and they’re not afraid to say the wild stuff we’re all thinking. It’s like catching up with your funniest, most unfiltered friends
🎤
Saw the Joy Tactics guys do stand up and legit almost pissed myself laughing made me like stand up again.
🎵
This is already my third rec about her but she is so talented, I’ve loved all of her singles leading up to her debut album and of course the album itself is great. I believe she has the sauce🎀
🏛️
I feel like they cover all the pop culture topics I’m interested in and are so hilarious to listen to. They have their own lingo that I find myself using everyday lol.
🎤
These two forces made one of the best albums of 2025.. Addison... women can do everything and anything. AOTY!!!!!
✏️
what a guy! A+ sense of silly, relatable humor. he's SO open with sharing his workflow, animation process, and tips on storytelling and structure, which makes him even more likable (if you can believe it!) ... I love his weird little alien character sm
✨
I’m sooo glad she is finally getting the flowers she deserves. So whimsy and fun ahhhhh
👯♀️
Out of all the books to emerge from the alt-lit scene, Paradise Logic by Sophie Kemp might be my new all time favorite. The experimental debut novel came out in March of this past year, and it felt more exciting to me than any other releases from the past few years. It follows a girl on her journey to become the best girlfriend in the world.
😃
maybe one of the first Patreons I ever subscribed to, and it still feels like a secret, special part of the internet. dan’s yearly wrap ups are genuinely the only way I remember what happened in a year. He also has the best guests, I could listen to him to talk to Marisa Baldassarro and Alissa Bennett for hours

Most ‘lucky’ come up stories have years of effort and patience behind them. Big dreams are important, but so is the work that makes them happen.
Here are the people whose energy keeps you inspired:

Such a fun act! Her, Ronnie, and Jerry are building a silly little world I want to be a part of 🌎
💓
the way she captures young women is sooo special. been following her work for years and I’ll never be sick of it 🎀
🎤
i know true piffheads (??) know who this is bc she did a big pify (???) thing on here already but i only see success in her future. tremendously funny and creative. as far as nyc comedians i’d also say tessa belle (tessabellle) has been incredibly entertaining every time i’ve seen her do anything, really seems on the rise, and maya sharma (goodjobmaya), in the group Ladies Who Ranch, i’ve always found one of the consistently funniest people in the city. these women should all have their own tv show or something. Thats my 2 cents
🎵
i think he’s already starting to get the roses that he deserves but i know there’s way more to come listen to hell of a ride or daddy and tell me i’m wrong
✂️
obviously has been a huge past few years for the cutting room floor but this last year really put her on the map with some of the best interviews we've seen (Steve Madden???). we're living through a bit of a dark age for late night TV but interviewers like Recho give me hope - the future of talk shows is online
📽️
Eliza’s work is so special. A few years ago she wrote The Hearing Test novel which follows a story of a young artist experiencing a sudden hearing loss and was adopted into a short film The Non-Actor that I caught at tiff last year. Can’t wait to see what she does next 🌱
👨🍳
The only line cook in Bushwick! But seriously, he's going places (and is bringing the quart container with him).
