The mute option on Instagram is life changing. I feel like unfollowing people feels weird so I love that I don’t have to see things from people that I don’t want to. Perfect option for old friends/exes/whoever. Makes me feel much better when I don’t have as much of a sinking feeling every time I open the app.

ā€œCOMPARISON IS THE THIEF OF JOYā€ ā€œDISCARD ANYTHING THAT DOESN’T SPARK JOY.ā€ You don’t need to have these people in your life. Unless they make you laugh or give you wisdom, their content has no value to you. I followed so many people because of their expensive interesting clothing, aesthetic pictures of places I’m not going to go to, and features of their appearance that I don’t have. If not for social media, their life would not be connected to mine at all! Your life is fine, as is theirs, social media isn’t real. I haven’t unfollowed all of them yet…maybe some day. Clicking that unfollow button feels pretty freeing. I’m going to be a careful mindful brainy netizen in this life. So goodbye niche internet micro-celebrities, parting is such sweet sorrow.

I haven’t been on Twitter for years and hardly touch FB, but I had been an active user on Instagram since 2012. I really like taking and sharing photos, and that had always been a fun place to do it. No more. With the changes the content moderation changes they’re making, leaving LGBTQ+ folks vulnerable to be targeted; their rolling back of DEI programs; their willing participation in far-right rhetoric and politics; it’s all too much and I’m out. As if Meta’s platform hadn’t already been increasingly enshittified, this was the final straw to announce how much worse it will get. And you know what? It feels freeing. Better to leave it behind and find new platforms to connect with people.

There is something so soul cleansing about giving things away - decluttering and making your closet/space make sense for you. also, I used to always take old clothes to buy-back stores like Clothes Mentor hoping to make quick cash, to usually not make anything more than $4 lol, and it feels so much better just taking your stuff to goodwill; way more rewarding knowing that your once-loved items are accessible to people who may be in need or don’t have a lot of money to spend on clothes and things.

Write the poem, take the photo, record the original or cover, record the video, start the painting; whatever it is, just do it. It doesn’t have to be shared but just make the art.
