independent, journalist-run newspaper. generally NYC/NY focused so you’d have to look elsewhere for natl/intl they have a great daily newsletter (free) called the “morning spew” lol that provides a summary of a big update and then a list of links to other news stories. i love this because i can keep up with nyc news (which is chaotic) and they explain things pretty well. they have ”rss”, a podcast, and socials too if you prefer ant of those (also they have this awesome page called “The Eric Adams Table of Success” that basically maps out Adams’ corruption lol it’s worth exploring)

To be honest what I've realized is that you need multiple sources to cover what social media was giving you. Not only to actually get unbiased news but also to cover different topics. I've started listening to The Fucking News, which is good for daily political coverage in the US, and he is good about linking everything in the text of the newsletter so it's easy to fact check (got this rec from bee1000).
There are also a ton of independent journalists on substack that can probably cover whatever news needs you might have. I'm personally on the lookout for a good health/science news source because that's another topic I want to keep up with. If you wanted international news you'd probably also need another source. I guess my main recommendation would be substack. (There are also a ton of recs about this topic in related recs under your ask.)

being traditionally cool is really quite boring and iterative, and it’s actually very cool and sexy to geek out about something you like or share bits of knowledge on a topic you’re passionate about

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WORKER’S DAY!!!! i love having a union, i love being a union steward and getting to support my unit. when my union won its contract, i got a pay bump, better benefits, and increased protection as a worker. đŸ„ł unions help address racial and gender pay gaps, issues workplaces impose on families and those having kids, addressing unsafe conditions, plus things like better health insurance, wages and overtime, weingarten rights to representation, and more!!! if you don’t have a union but are thinking about forming one, check out AFL-CIO’s page (linked) or Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee. there’s always more power in a union!! âœŠđŸ„–đŸŒč
