i’m currently getting a masters degree and the amount of people that use chat gpt instead of actually searching for answers in the literature is staggering. mama let’s research it’s literally what you’re supposed to do in academia

Actually I have another hater take. Sorry but I do judge you if you use this (or any other AI chat bot because apparently there are others?) and treat it as a source of truth.....very strange behavior. I thought we all thought it was dumb but I now hear people reference it's use in common conversation/at work as if it's not weird? Why are you all feeding the beast? Can we please use our brains? Use it or lose it, baby!

*yeah*. there’s classmates in my course that use chatgpt for assignments. They joke about it too. It’s disquieting to say the least. Like guys, please, you can’t just whip it out in the midst of an actual emergency, you actually need to be able to absorb and retain all this info moving forward *in life* it’s okay not to know something immediately and sit with your questions and yourself for a bit. Because, hey, you can refer to all of our units’ information and materials that you paid for to even enter this course in the first place!! not to mention the environmental impact or the stolen work it’s trained on. what are we doin’ folks

Going to lectures
I already graduated but I work at a uni and now during my lunch breaks I go to the library and learn. Professors are always presenting their work. Had a sick discussion about the history of menus. I love learning!!

Colleagues of the future
When you’re looking at multiple, grad-level programs it’s probably because you want something specific out of it. Look up the professors who will be teaching your classes - who’s more in line with what you want to get out of the program? Have a question for one of them? - email them! Grad school is a lot of networking as much as just taking classes and doing research.

while i do enjoy watching a movie with a friend i realized that i had all my best experiences in the movie theater while going alone. when i’m by myself i have all the time in the world to think about the movie after it’s finished and let it really sit with me.

slow days, fast company by eve babitz
it’s a biographical essay collection about her life in los angeles in the 60s and early 70s. eve is super witty and her writing has a kind of addictive quality, it feels like you’re catching up with a friend that has been through the craziest experiences. i also adore the ambience of l.a. around this period and the descriptions of the city are so atmospheric that it makes you feel nostalgic for a time you weren’t even born. all around it’s a really fun book!

Don’t leave your nice clothes and shoes or expensive make up gathering dust in your wardrobe because they’re “too nice” to wear on regular, everyday occasions. Life is mostly made of regular occasions, wear that nice dress and expensive perfume to go to the movie theater on a sunday afternoon
