Theater on Film and Tape Archive at The Lincoln Center Performing Arts Library

At the Lincoln Center Performing Arts Library you can watch almost any theatrical production performed in New York City since 1970. Due to union laws, you can only watch a production once and must stay in the library’s viewing cubicles. Recently, I watched John C. Riley and Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Sam Shepard’s True West. If you love theater, do yourself a favor and spend an afternoon watching an old production. I love theater and want new plays. I am imagining a burgeoning playwright creeping into the library to watch Meryl Streep in “Mouther Courage and Her Children” and going on to write their own Mother Courage (and casting me).

Watching your favorite movie in a theatre

What I love about nyc is the infinite amount of screenings there are for all types of movies — I think of it as an event more than anything! Feels way more fulfilling than just catching a film that just came out at an amc or whatever. The theaters r so much more intimate! And then you’ll watch happy together 1997 and the colors will be so beautiful n bright and you’ll cry and feel the same way someone did after seeing it 20+ years ago!

Lorde’s Lyrics

I don’t think pop music has historically ever had a moment like her “Girl, So Confusing” remix verse. It’s not a joke. It’s a triumph for literature. Everyone remembers where they were the first time they heard it. This was a serious revolution and took us out of her usual fever dreaminess of controlled poetic syntax (which I love) , to just unmasked, raw, chaotic feminine brutality and I don’t think we appreciate the prose switch-up enough. I also have said “let’s work it out on the remix?” to many people I’ve fought with since the song dropped. Sometimes I even write a verse mimicking the song taking accountability of what I’ve done and I send it to who I’m in a conflict with, it actually helps! I’m obsessed with the new singles off her upcoming album Virgin and I’m already studying the cadence of epigrams like ‘MDMA in the back garden’,. I’m someone who struggles with severe summer depression, which is taboo in the world of seasonal sadists but taking my discman for a walk by the ocean as “The Path” starts up on my (files purchased on ITunes!) burnt CD-R copy of ‘Solar Power’ is nature’s SSRI. Suck on that, Saint John’s Wort.
