I had a conversation with a friend when I mentioned I just finished reading The Bell Jar written by Sylvia Plath and he told me his sister is obsessed with her for “the aesthetic” (the aesethic in question is coquette) he also mentioned how his sister is romantising catholicism (looking to get properly baptized, mother mary pink ai phone lockscreen, etc etc) What I find interesting is that the coquette aesethic (and this may be how I perceive it) is almost the exact foundation that Plath was writhing against in her own writing. A traditional romanticized womanhood. particularly religious (or vaguely so) young woman or teenager. I’ve also seen this with Lolita etc etc. Why do some people love And cherish the oppression their idols are making commentary and fighting against? And further why is Plath such a HUGE name in the community????has anyone else seen this. Any cool papers/video essays etc about the topic. Thoughts etc etc????
