I recently proposed to Phoebe Bridgers through song and a video proposal. The song is titled Phoebe Lucille Bridgers, Will You Marry Me?, so that says it all really. The song itself goes into how much Phoebe means to me, their meteor-like impact on my life, and ends with a sort of sarcasm “So, when are we meeting?” I chose to end with this line because I have that much confidence in my feelings for Phoebe. If they weren’t true, I would probably just have thrown this song out. I spent a week in San Diego recording it with my good friend Ian Menher and other musicians, some who have opened for The 1975 and have had a great impact on the DIY and overall music scene in San Diego. I felt so honored and privileged to have had these musicians on this song. I kept it a secret for two years! Two years! I wanted to tell everyone who it was about and why I was doing, but I felt so embarrassed. Like, “Are people going to think I’m a creep? Are there legal boundaries with song titles and peoples names?” I had no idea what to do. I settled on, “I truly do love this person, and I do not care what the world thinks of me.” Life is too damn short.
