local arts org just put out a survey for where people want to see a new public art project in a latino neighborhood that's being gentrified (where i live).... and my first thought is: we actually need another grocery store more than we need another mural or fancy bench. I'm just wondering what it would be like if that money were to be invested in our community's material conditions. As an artist, i love art obviously but this is the first time i find myself at odds with it. I feel annoyed at the concept of beautification although I love beautiful things....
