I’m gonna be moving into a new apartment pretty soon and the greatest joy for me to furnishing my new place. Alex got me this book a few years ago, and I find myself flipping through it on random occasions and it has been a great source of inspiration. There’s nothing in the book other than pictures of beautifully designed chairs, from classics to modern.
Closing Time is filled to the brim with smokey piano ballads. It’s less experimental than some of his (phenominal) later work, but so consistently good, you know you can always throw it on when you’re looking for that particular vibe. The old fashioned, dimly lit office, dusting off a thick book kinda vibe. I just threw it on while finishing this and I’m hankering for a good Christie and an old fashioned…
I’ve never been to Disney as a kid and as I grew older I always felt like I was too old for it. I spontaneously tagged along with my family the day before they left and I think that was the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m a huge fan of Star Wars and Avatar, and even as an adult I think I had the best week of my life and I felt like a kid again. I legitimately had real tears of joy on some of the rides. It’s never too late!
I recently started to get the paper on more than just Sunday, I wanted that “intentional slow morning” benefit on a weekday too - but I wasn’t about to cough up the cost of a daily paper. Now I get it delivered every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and have a nice cup of coffee with the paper every one of those mornings. I honestly don’t read most of it, I skim lots of article titles and maybe read a few paragraphs from ones I’m semi-interested in - but there’s a couple of gems in every paper. Honestly the main benefit is the nice chunk of time I get to just sit back and relax each of those mornings.
I visited Tyler’s apartment in NYC a couple weeks ago, and felt like such an idiot when I saw his plastic bins of t shirts he has stored in his closet. The tees he doesn’t actively wear but isn’t quite ready to cut loose for good. When I got home, I found myself browsing the container store - immediately picturing the great ways I could improve my life with a container for everything: several t shirt boxes, a toy box for my daughter, stuff for my dvds, cds, and games that I want to store, the dog food, and everything else. It was like cleaning without having to actually clean.
Man, this era of Green Day rocks. I recently went on a stroll down memory lane, blazing through their early discography. You got the hits on American Idiot and Dookie, the crazy but fun tunes like King For a Day on Nimrod, classic catchy tunes like Warning, and so much more. These albums really defined music for me in middle school, and it’s been so awesome to revisit them.
While everyone is raving about their trendy nonstick pans, I’m here to bring the spotlight back to cast iron cookware. There’s a huge stigma around how hard it is to take care of cast irons, but it’s really not bad! You just gotta keep using it, and over time, it basically becomes nonstick. This article has sent off a tangent, and now I am a proud owner of a well-seasoned cast iron pan and griddle.
More recently I’ve been making things like mayo, pickled red onions, and bread from scratch because I can control the taste. These are must haves in the kitchen so it’s a nice weekend thing to whip up on the weekends and having them ready for sandwiches for quick meals throughout the week.
This movie’s weird. If you don’t know it, Lost River is Ryan Goslings single venture into directing, what some may call a vanity project. That’s really what I love about it. There’s no beating around the bush here, he fully embraces the world he’s created to a fault. It’s over the top in the oddest ways. The story is…some might say lynch-esque, and the cinematography is honestly beautiful (some might say Winding-Refn-esque). If you want a movie with names like Christina Hendricks, Matt Smith, and Saoirse Ronan with a flawed story about a seemingly apocalyptic Detroit, with a flooded lost town, a gang leader/bully named Bully, and a guy with no lips, then watch it. Just go in expecting something weird.
White noise is stress inducing to me rather than calming, so this eight hour long sound of forest creek water peacefully running has been my thing for the past month. I always have this on when I’m working or when I can’t sleep. It’s super relaxing and it’s definitely gonna be my number one “track” for 2022.
I recently happened upon this ceramics family when in one of those deep holes, looking for cool dishwear and trinkets for the home. I found myself drawn to the noticably hand painted designs, which are beautiful but simple. I personally love the green and white aptly named “Schizzato” stuff like this pitcher most, but there’s plenty of other standouts as well.
