Dagsen Love is a Los Angeles-based model, DJ, startup strategist, and self-described diplomat. He’s also one of a kind socialite and thinker that’s been signed to IMG Models since he was just 16 years old. Dagsen tells me that got a 35 on his ACT and didn’t go to college, but these days he works at a FTX-backed media company called HERE that he describes as a ā€œcooler and younger version of Global Citizenā€. Four months ago he started a briefly-lived DJ collective named ā€œmandate heavenā€ that’s based on the Chinese political concept of the mandate of heaven. Within just one month #mandateheaven had racked up 2 million views on TikTok, but at this point it’s just him throwing the occasional party and posting on IG. Lucky for us, Dagsen is here to tell us what he’s been into.

This stuff is awesome. Check it out. This guy, he wants to abolish suffering. Gradients of eternal bliss, absolute hedonism.

I was quite bored in 2019. I got really into cars. I learned everything about them. Why did I do this? I didn’t know how to drive and this was the only way to motivate myself. They film all of the car youtube videos on Angeles Crest. It’s beautiful and you can drive very fast. I now live 10 minutes away from this place at a house nestled deep in a river valley. My roommates went to Deep Springs and the house is 98 years old.

For fear of embarrassing myself or creating an infohazard with a poor explainer, I will be sparse in my description. Just check it out. These ideas have legs. Longtermism is interesting. Effective Altruism is interesting.

This city has the best climate in America. I love it so much. I wish I lived here. The AI researchers, the big tech yuppies, the fact there’s an ethnic neighborhood for cishet frat bros—I love it more than anywhere else in America. The group houses, the cults, the rationalists, the technoptimists, the pure and untapped creative alpha. I have literally not spent more than two weeks in San Francisco. It’s a social scene the size of Dimes with 100x higher impact. ā€œOh let’s go to clandestinoā€ No let’s go to The Interval at the Long Now.

I grew up Episcopal. This is the largest Episcopal church in the world. I like it. It’s really big. The street next to it is named Cathedral Parkway. That’s a cool street name. Second only to Fell Street in San Francisco.

I was walking around the Upper West Side this morning. It was 50 degrees. It was 6 am. I learned of this band a few days ago. I was sad. I was in a vaguely mystical state. I ran into someone from downtown. His girlfriend had broken her hip at Bella Ciao a few nights ago. They capture such a particular emotion—this song is my favorite.

ā€œQRI's goals are to develop a precise mathematical language for describing phenomenal experience; to understand the nature of emotional valence; and to develop technologies based on this research that improve people’s lives. It was founded in December 2018 by AndrĆ©s Gómez Emilsson, Mike Johnson and Romeo Stevens.ā€
