Rachel Kaly is a writer, comedian, and self described “gay MENA misogynist” from New York City who I became a fan of after seeing her open for Conner O'Malley a few years ago at lifeworld (RIP). She got an early start to comedy on the Conan O’Brian show at age five and has basically been doing standup ever since. Rachel has appeared on HBO’s High Maintenance, writes & voice acts for Comedy Central’s “Digman!” and was recently highlighted in Vulture’s 25 Comedians You Should and Will Know list. She also has a podcast with fellow comedian Robby Hoffan called Too Far that The New York Times called an addictive listen. You can watch skits and clips of her live shows on her Youtube, or catch her live touring her latest act, Hospital Hour. Lucky for us, Rachel is here to tell us what she’s been into.

This is a 10/10 TV show from UK comedian Jamie Demetriou that is 3 seasons long (not enough). Every time i tell someone what it is called, they make me say it out loud 4 times and that is a testament to how funny the show is in my opinion…… it is seriously laugh out loud funny and i dont really laugh that often at stuff. His sister natasia is on it playing his sister and their dad on the show is this old greek gay guy and it is kind of a perfect comedic depiction of having an immigrant parent. British comedy hits different in this case 🤣🤣🤣

This is self-explanatory i think. I need to be on my computer or phone the second it gets dark out so that i dont think about how im going to die one day, so i usually do online shopping. But of course i cannot buy the things i want due to i’d lose everything in terms of my money, and also i am obsessed with designer clothing so i really cannot be behaving in that way. But i suspend my belief and open 100+ tabs of clothing/shoes/accessories that i like from TheRealReal, cos, ebay, to name a few and then just as i’m finally starting to get sleepy, i “apple Q” thousands of dollars away without ever adding anything to a cart so that i can start over the next day. It is like “50 first dates” but with retail therapy. Does this make sense?

I’m really sorry but im recommending the band the beatles…… i know that’s heinous but it’s just what i have been up to…… i rewatched the Peter Jackson doc “Get Back” last December and I have only listened to the Beatles for the last year. Not kidding. I have not played a single other artist. It feels like committing a hate crime un petit peu.. But i love those damn boys……

I get very emotional recommending this because i don’t want to bring in fair weather fans and also as more people come i get on the jumbotron less, but you simply must start going to WNBA games. When the NY Liberty moved to Barclays in 2021, I started attending every single home game. It is the only place in the world i ever feel the full spectrum of emotions. These players are GOOD and many of them are DATING EACH OTHER which happens in no other sport at all basically!!!! Two years ago, 4 of the 5 starting players on Chicago’s team were literally married to each other (two couples, not poly though i wouldnt rule that out as something that could happen in the future). The tickets are so cheap because people do not value the league enough and then also the league itself thinks that people who attend the games have to be entertained the whole entire time or else no one will come, so they have programming for every second of the game, including a dance team of people aged 50+. It’s amazing and i cannot wait for next season.

This is a website i found in 2014 when i was squatting in an nyu dorm and it was too hard to leave the building because i was pretending to be a student there and had to sign in every day so i couldn’t really go to the gym anymore. This website has many videos for home workouts from HIIT cardio to bodyweight pilates to lifting and they are pretty good in my opinion. There are a lot of free videos but you can also pay $8.99/month for more videos which i recommend. Of course the caveat is that it is extremely easy to hurt yourself if you dont know what youre doing which i often dont so be careful!!! For example My shin cramped once doing a fast yoga class

My wallet is the size of my forearm and i have never lost it in the 10 years ive had it. Yes it means im carrying a backpack most of the time because it doesn’t really fit in a normal purse so to speak, but ive never had to replace a credit card or an ID and that is worth looking like a child on the subway for.

This is a soothing activity and i can sit doing it for 12 hours while watching “sex and the city” for the first time in my life. Most of the art in my home is art that i have made from paint by numbers and what’s amazing about it is that they have many different styles. For a long time i thought the only paint by numbers you could do was animals, and i generally hate animals, so i avoided it. But it turns out you can make van gogh-like paintings, or gorgeous vistas from italy’s cinque terra, or a cityscape. If you are looking for something a little less committal (I tend to spend 40 hours on one but i get extremely detailed ones) you should do a paint-and-sip class at Pinot’s Palette. They are all over the US and you get to take a group photo at the end that they put on facebook like you graduated from high school :)
