I have two (minor) issues in my life that have both been solved by a single action. The issues are, 1) I eat too fast and it causes me a number of horrific digestional issues and 2) I don’t read as much as I would like to. The solution is, reading while I eat. I discovered this by accident. I go through disciplinary phases where I force myself not to consume any form of internet content. During one of these phases, I found myself bored while eating my lunch alone and I decided to entertain myself with a book. Little did I know how delightful this would truly be. The physical requirements of reading a book forced me to slow down my eating, I think I added 20 minutes to my eating process by simply adding a book to the equation. Now, my stomach hurts less and I’m reading more books. Hurray!

One thing you must know about me is that I always have my nails done. My legs can be unshaved, hair can look like shit, skin in need of dermatological intervention, but my nails will ALWAYS BE DONE. This is a non-negotiable part of my routine. However, it used to be a stressful bi-weekly appointment due to decision fatigue. Should I get a design on my nails? Should I try a new color? What if hate my choice and I’m stuck with it for weeks? I say “used to be” because after years of trial and error, I have finally figured out my go-to nail color. Listen, It might not seem like a big discovery to you, especially because my go-to color is literally just a deep shade of red (the most obvious color on the planet that everyone has been defaulting to since 1500 BC probably), but to me, this is a sigh of relief. I have had fleeting phases in the past where I thought I had found my color (beige, white, baby pink, the list goes on), but deep red feels like forever. It matches every outfit, I’m satisfied after every manicure, and the anxiety of uncertainty that has plagued nail appointments for years has vanished. I am free.

With maturity and wisdom comes the ability to enjoy bird watching. Prior to now I misunderstood the activity completely, and in a lot of ways I still have a lot to learn. I don’t pencil bird watching into my schedule, I don’t have bird species memorized, I don’t have a pair of binoculars in my bag, but I find myself watching birds occasionally, and I really enjoy it. For example, on my birthday this year, I decided to spend the day alone (I get emo on my birthday), and I took myself to the beach. I walked for a while before deciding to sit and watch birds. I watched birds for almost an hour and I had a beautifully relaxing time. They really don’t do anything miraculous, but there is something meditative about watching them eat soggy crumbs off the ground and ruffle their little feathers for reasons unknown. I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up taking it seriously in my older age… I guess we’ll have to see.

I don’t know when exactly these shorts became such a staple, arguably a cornerstone in my life, but I’d have to guess it was about two years ago. I nonchalantly purchased a pair of rusty orange sweat shorts from Aritzia on one of my online shopping escapades not having a clue what these shorts would become to me. They are the perfect looseness for maximum comfort, they are worn to the perfect softness, and I wear them to bed every night. I am not exaggerating. Every night. Life has become the hours in between the orange shorts. I say goodbye to them every morning just to greet them a few hours later in the evening. They almost feel like a lover to me. This is what marriage must feel like, saying goodbye in the morning and living a life of one’s own, filled with uncertainty and challenge,  just to reunite in the evening to the sweet familiarity of your lover. I dream of a relationship with a man that mirrors my relationship with my orange shorts.

Good things fall into the wrong hands sometimes, I believe this is the case with the Stanley Cup. Hear me out, the Stanley Cup got a sour reputation in the same way ultra famous celebrities do: over exposure. The Stanley Cup fell into the hands of the masses and couldn’t have possibly lived up to the pedestal they placed it on. Did the Stanley Cup do anything wrong? Not really. The Stanley Cup was just famous. I think the Stanley Cup is fucking phenomenal. My ice stays cold for an ungodly amount of time, it fits in the cup holders in my car, its existence somehow reminds me to drink water, and the little tray on the top is the perfect size to hold my little tray of Zyn’s.

It all started at Erewhon. It feels like everyone who lives in Los Angeles or has ever visited Los Angeles has tried the buffalo cauliflower at least once. Similar to most Los Angeles residents, I have had the Erewhon buffalo cauliflower more times than I can count. It’s a weekly occurrence. Imagine a buffalo chicken wing where the chicken is… cauliflower. As a lifelong vegetarian (with an occasional bite of a bacon egg and cheese, etc), I was particularly excited to find a buffalo wing substitute. I haven’t tried an actual buffalo wing before, I imagine they’re pretty good because people seem to get very excited about them, however I couldn’t care less because I’m deeply satisfied with the cauliflower variety. Everytime I see buffalo cauliflower on a menu, at Erewhon or beyond, I order it. No questions asked. It’s a food that is as fun as it is delicious.

I put this sauce on absolutely everything. I found it from this video: 1 cup water1 cup tahini1 habanero pepper (or ½ if you are scared)¼ cup lime juice⅓ cup basil and mint3 normal sized garlic cloves

People don’t think of crossbody bags and think of fashion, they think of the opposite, utility and convenience. Understandably so, as most of the crossbody bags we see out in the world are not making a fashion statement, in fact, they are usually stating the opposite. They scream, “My dog just pooped and my baby is crying and I can’t be bothered to manage a chic but inconvenient purse.” As a person who cares for fashion and likes to feel fashionable as much as possible, I’ve spent many years struggling to keep the trendy shoulder bags from slipping off my shoulder, until I discovered the duality of the crossbody bag. The crossbody bag can be cool, you just have to find the right one. Finding chic crossbody bags is challenging unless you seek them out, as they are usually hiding in the darker sections of clothing stores and the 8th page of an online site. To complicate things further, there’s no formula for picking them out and you must base the decision on intuition. I’ll tell you this though, it’s a closet staple absolutely worth finding.

📺🌆
This is the best show I have seen in years. It checks every box for me, it’s humorous, it’s investigative, it’s light-hearted, and it’s genius. It has everything needed to be a “comfort show,” and that it is for me. I put this show on anytime I don’t have anything else I want to watch  (which is often because I hate starting new television ventures out of fear of disliking them and being plagued with guilt about not watching enough to fully judge. I will say to myself, “maybe it will get better if I watch for a bit longer?” until I have finished the entire thing and wasted 2-6 hours of my life, etc). John Wilson has created the perfect show.
