I don’t know when exactly these shorts became such a staple, arguably a cornerstone in my life, but I’d have to guess it was about two years ago. I nonchalantly purchased a pair of rusty orange sweat shorts from Aritzia on one of my online shopping escapades not having a clue what these shorts would become to me. They are the perfect looseness for maximum comfort, they are worn to the perfect softness, and I wear them to bed every night. I am not exaggerating. Every night. Life has become the hours in between the orange shorts. I say goodbye to them every morning just to greet them a few hours later in the evening. They almost feel like a lover to me. This is what marriage must feel like, saying goodbye in the morning and living a life of one’s own, filled with uncertainty and challenge,  just to reunite in the evening to the sweet familiarity of your lover. I dream of a relationship with a man that mirrors my relationship with my orange shorts.

I wasn’t one of those people that reverted to sweats and loungewear in the early days of quarantine, but I’ve come to appreciate the joy of “soft” clothing when indoors. Before I moved from NY to LA, I dug out an old pair of sateen Army fatigues that have a beautiful softness and peached finish that lies between pajama pants, sweatpants and the sort of cotton canvas work pants painters might wear. The design is louche and utilitarian enough that any relation to it’s military origin is not immediately obvious, and the olive green is quite faded and muted and would be at home in a garden or any natural setting. I love repurposed and recontextualized objects in general, but these pants have become increasingly dear to me as I’ve come to appreciate the beauty in their simplicity and practicality.

I like my Patagonia Baggies™ like anyone, but they can only go so far. These shorts feel like a more complete and universal item. I know I know, you don’t believe in shorts, that’s great for you. I do, and these are why. Also,  in certain situations, shorts with an Oxford can look more put together than with pants if done right. These are great because they are proper shorts and also double as swim trunks so you can travel with less stuff or be a “fun, spontaneous person” if the mood strikes. Outlier are fabric freaks so I trust them pretty explicitly and their photos and experiments are fun to keep up with.

argh just a fav for a cozy day at home or even just to wear it as a short with a cute sweater for outside. Bring me a boxer brief any day of the week, sometimes strings just dont do it for me (like never) and a comfy boxer is just often a kiss at the end of a long day

With maturity and wisdom comes the ability to enjoy bird watching. Prior to now I misunderstood the activity completely, and in a lot of ways I still have a lot to learn. I don’t pencil bird watching into my schedule, I don’t have bird species memorized, I don’t have a pair of binoculars in my bag, but I find myself watching birds occasionally, and I really enjoy it. For example, on my birthday this year, I decided to spend the day alone (I get emo on my birthday), and I took myself to the beach. I walked for a while before deciding to sit and watch birds. I watched birds for almost an hour and I had a beautifully relaxing time. They really don’t do anything miraculous, but there is something meditative about watching them eat soggy crumbs off the ground and ruffle their little feathers for reasons unknown. I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up taking it seriously in my older age… I guess we’ll have to see.

I have two (minor) issues in my life that have both been solved by a single action. The issues are, 1) I eat too fast and it causes me a number of horrific digestional issues and 2) I don’t read as much as I would like to. The solution is, reading while I eat. I discovered this by accident. I go through disciplinary phases where I force myself not to consume any form of internet content. During one of these phases, I found myself bored while eating my lunch alone and I decided to entertain myself with a book. Little did I know how delightful this would truly be. The physical requirements of reading a book forced me to slow down my eating, I think I added 20 minutes to my eating process by simply adding a book to the equation. Now, my stomach hurts less and I’m reading more books. Hurray!

This is the best show I have seen in years. It checks every box for me, it’s humorous, it’s investigative, it’s light-hearted, and it’s genius. It has everything needed to be a “comfort show,” and that it is for me. I put this show on anytime I don’t have anything else I want to watch  (which is often because I hate starting new television ventures out of fear of disliking them and being plagued with guilt about not watching enough to fully judge. I will say to myself, “maybe it will get better if I watch for a bit longer?” until I have finished the entire thing and wasted 2-6 hours of my life, etc). John Wilson has created the perfect show.
