Nardwuar The Human Serviette is a Vancouver-based music journalist and musician. He is undoubtedly one of the most notable figures in music journalism and since the late eighties, he has interviewed an ever-expanding assortment of musicians from Lady Gaga to Nirvana. What has set Nardwuar apart (aside from his own charmingly infectious personality and eclectic styling) is the scrupulous research he conducts for every single interview, offering his interviewees the most niche anecdotes from their own lives (think the name of a high school teacher, or a secret favorite movie pick). These references elicit bewildered excitement and sometimes primal fear— seeing these reactions from our favorite musicians is a part of what makes his content so distinctive. On September 26th, he will hold an in-person ā€œVideo Vaultā€ screening at Webster Hall, where he will chat about some of his favorite interviews and do a Q&A. He also tells us ā€œ It’s an All-ages Show! Doot doo!ā€ Lucky for us, Nardwuar is here to tell us what he’s been into.

This fascinating documentary made in 2012 tells the story behind Michael Viner’s Incredible Bongo Band recording the Album ā€˜Bongo Rock’ at Can-Base Studios (Later known as Mushroom Studios) in Vancouver, BC Canada! ā€˜Bongo Rock’ released in 1973, became kinda like the foundation of hip hop as DJs in the Bronx such as Kool Herc ended up sampling a song from it called ā€˜Apache’, in turn exposing it to Jay Z, Nas, Sugarhill Gang and many more.
