OKLOU

šŸ›¤ Saint Girons, šŸŽ¼ML Buch music, šŸ†Daft Punk : Discovery’s giant music video, and more.

Oklou is a Paris-based electronic musician, who gained a cult following with her 2020 album Galore. She’s also collaborated with other Perfectly Imperfect-favorite artists like A.G. Cook and Bladee. The avant-pop enchantress just kicked off the year with the release of her highly anticipated newest record choke enough–if you haven’t tuned in (despite the buzz), you can check it out here. One of my favorite moments from the album’s rollout was her sick NTS session, where she performed the closing track in an ice rink. Later this month, she kicks off her headline European and North American tour, and you can buy your tickets here. Lucky for us, Oklou’s here to tell us what she’s been into.

Probably one of my favorite horror movie ever watched, and I’m a fan of this genre which is I think is a pretty difficult one to master . I remember feeling totally invaded by its atmosphere after having watched it, which is a great sensation. I loved the pace, and the precision of everything including the art direction , the music, colors, the acting and the way terror slowly meddles as the movie goes.Ā

Through this choice I want to emphasize the growing interest I have for actually visiting and enjoying the country I’m living in and Saint Girons is my most recent little trip that had me enthusiastic about villages lifestyles. I loved walking everywhere, the big market where a few witches are selling weird potions herbs based, loved my friends restaurant Pour Ceux overhanging the Salat river and the few basic stores that are there to remind you cool adages that can help you get away from capitalism and entreprenariat for the rest of your life

Really this is a recommendation for those who didn’t come across ML Buch ā€˜s music yet. I think it’s a nice recommendation because her sound gives a ā€œuniversalā€ feeling, yet she’s offering a very personal and intimate experience . The combination of that for me is very precious and well done. Like I genuinely don’t see which type of people could not have a nice time hearing ML Buch music. It’s like a giant hug to someone that has a calming power over your entire being; everybody loves that .Ā

Another french digression because I think it’s important, but this time we travel to the North of the country, in the territory of Brittany where traditions and culture are very alive. One slide of the culture is food obviously, and that food includes that unpronounceable dream made of sugar and butter : the Kouign-Amann. Salted butter of course . the best kouign-amann is in Douarnenez where it’s been invented. honestly I don’t even know what to say more. You need to try it.Ā

Because I can only recommend things I have experienced and this has been one of 2024’s good experiences for me. I’ve been surprised at the actual soothing power of this activity. It’s been nice to be able to work and focus on something that is entirely out of interest for anyone else. A conversation between just me and plants growing, and they’re growing at a pace that feels similar to mine, like really slow. I loved coming back home and sitting outside for 45 minutes just to notice what’s working , what’s not, who’s made progress, who needs what type of attention. I’ve felt very proud of this work and it feels nice to do something that you think is good.

Sorry it’ll be actually my third super french intervention but I need to talk about Interstellar 555. I recently discovered that some of my super french super close friends have never SEEN THIS MASTERPIECE, which is basically a collaboration between Daft Punk and Kazuhisa Takenouchi , to illustrate their album Discovery released in 2003. Interstellar 555 is a musical animated movie drawn by Leiji Matsumoto that basically uses all the songs from the album to create a 68 minutes science fiction story. It’s brilliant, it’s gorgeous, ngl it feels very nostalgic to watch but it’s a duty to acknowledge this fundamental art.Ā
