Iāve been going to this museum ever since I moved to New York. Itās a perfect hidden gem for any history nerds who want a slightly less crowded museum experience on the upper east side. The permanent collection is thorough but not overwhelming and you can get through it in a few hours (I personally hate being in huge museums where I get stressed by the amount of rooms/options). And despite being a history museum, it offers a modern and interactive experience and isnāt dusty!!

The new interactive music exhibit in particular (Songs of New York) is a fun litlte excursion: it features music from more than 100 artists, from the 1920s through the present, showcasing styles from bebop to K-pop across every genre, borough and musical moment of the past 100+ years.
I well and truly was today years old when I discovered this. Ā

š¦“This is probably the best art museum in the city even though its goal is to be plainly didactic and show off some dinosaur bones. Just look at those dioramas. Itās all Off. As my colleague Louis Osmosis might say, itās giving kunst. Philanthropy chic. I love that some corners of this place havenāt seen any sprucing up since like the 90ās. It feels abandoned and too big for its own good; each section suggests varying degrees of attendance and funding so thereās a weird fragmented feel to walking through the entire museum. Some rooms have flickering lights and are mad dusty. Definitely for fans of Baudrillardās Simulacra and Simulations lol! I recommend going in the winter time.

šIāve spent a LOT of time in the met over the course of my life in NYC. I take people there and I just show them my favorite spots. Itās nice to have some territory and museums are this really special dynamic/stagnant thing where there always new exhibitions but the core collection always stays the same.

š¤ÆWhen Roman, Frank and Carl are in a hostage situation in Season 2 of Succession, theyāre playing āFuck, Mary, Killā and when they turn to Carl for his turn, he simply says āLook, full disclosure, I am currently having a panic attack.ā I rarely express my anxiety in public (or private situations) and felt incredibly seen by Carl in this moment.
