In the morning I attempt to predict my day based on the crema that sits on top of my espresso. Sometimes I have espressos with frightening inky splotches and my days are SCARY and UNFORTUNATE. Sometimes I have perfect espresso days and perfect things happen to me. Good friends will text me pictures of their coffee and ask me to read their fortunes and for them I do.

I love making coffee in my moka pot and if I travel for work, I can bring it with me and try beans from new places. The sound of the espresso bubbling inside is weirdly centering. Morning routines work! I make a pretty decent flat white. If I'm feeling absolutely insane? affogato for dessert. World's my oyster.

Two shots of espresso to convert into an espresso tonic with orange first thing in the morning, every morning, then at lunch, a light au lait with oat milk (or whatever you prefer), and, if you're feeling a little adventurous late on the weekend, a coffee apertif, as a San Francisco local, I lean towards the Irish Coffee to start a night out, but its up to you.

Been finally getting back into it the past couple of days! If you have access to an espresso machine (mine is a cheap, entry level one), the ritual of making espresso is the perfect way to start your morning. The grinding of the beans. Tamping the grounds in a portafilter. The trial and error of pulling a good shot. The feeling when you finally get it dialed in. Itβs a deeply rewarding process. Saves money in the long term too!

Listen to me. I have spent years looking for the perfect 501 type light wash denim. I have dumped money down the drain. I've texted ex-boyfriends begging them for their cast-offs. And then?
