Shout out to my friend Kirby who is undoubtedly one of the most talented musicians I know.  Creatively, he's had an amazing pandemic that started off with this really sparse and luxurious instrumental record.  It's like ambient solo piano with expert synth and flute arrangements. The songs are so meditative and neutrally emotional in that magical way good ambient music is. 10/10 from me.

This album…goddamn. S/o to the Herb Sundays substack for putting me onto what’s probably my favorite release of the year so far. It’s a beautiful piece of music front to back; very contemplative, sometimes sorrowful, other times achingly joyful. Can’t quite explain it the way I’d like, tbh. I have a feeling I discovered this at the exactly right time to fully receive it. It’s a good reminder just how context-driven art is. Moran employed a Yamaha Disklavier for this, which essentially plays a supporting role to her own playing. Per the Warp site: “Moran augments her pianistic abilities by utilising the Disklavier to write intricate piano parts that go beyond human capabilities, resulting in multi-layered compositions that blur the lines between human and machine.”

David Bowie - Moss Garden Written by Brian Eno, sprawling atmospheric synths sprinkled with bird chirps and sharp plucks make this record that special type of contemplative that turns to gratitude for beauty in everything. This is the kind of art that leads you to see things in a new and refreshing way. Listening to this reminds me of sitting by cold water on a hot day and feeling a frigid wave splash your feet every now and then to a rhythm you cant quite make sense of. Porter Robinson - Dullscythe Released in 2021 this record highlights that ever so slightly discordant PC Music sound that was prevalent in many projects of the time, all while having no official relationship to the label. Repetitive and jumpy beats with piano chops thrown about all bring together this feeling of childlike joy and excitement reminiscent of running, playing, and jumping in a field of green somewhere far, far away.

here's a completely under the radar gem of weirdo bedroom folk pop filled with bubblings of synths and fluttering flutes and random eclectic acoustic instrumentations, fragments of hooks and choruses, digressions into distortions and reemergences of natural ambiances with waterfall sounds, harps, xylophones, all mixed together in such a wonderful and fascinating way and i've been obsessed now for months... it sounds to me as if daniel johnston in his prime had access to a DAW.

Obsessed with this Chinese sci-fi novel right now.  It's putting to words a lot of the unavoidable existential dread that we're all trying to ignore.  I'm not usually a big fan of super hard sci-fi because I'm for the most part scientifically illiterate, but this book does such a good job of making physics poetic and kind of horrifying.

This book destroyed me.  It's a reinterpretation of the myth of Circe, one of the OG witches in Greek mythology who was exiled to an island for eternity.  She's a minor character in the Odyssey, but is given the lead role in this.  Unbelievably poignant writing about life and death.  Sobbed at the ending - it's a beautiful book.

My friends Sam and Amber design and run these clothing brands in LA and it's usually what I'm wearing.  Huge cuts with big pockets and everything is comfortable.  They also have a store called Cloud College on the east side that sells in house brands as well as local weirdo designers.  It's something
