every time i post about something pertaining to a celebrity it feels so much like a punisher moment (phoebe bridgers ref š), because iām like hey! idfk who you are but i painted you! wow! but itās also that i just deeply appreciate a persons work, and think hey this is pretty cool i should share it! everything is a moral dilemma. anyway, enough ramblings, this is a portrait loosely centered around the image of sophie thatcher that i posted, which sparked this current train of thought.

like i said in my other post i donāt know many photographers, but she is another one that comes to mind. sometimes they all fit a theme or tell a story. i think a common misconception of various visual art forms is that portraying the āmundaneā = not art/boring/nothing special etc and i think the popularity of her instagram page shows how artfully she is able to capture something as āsimpleā as strangers on their commute and turn them into something so engaging

I first saw her about nine years ago on tumblr and have followed her since. she captures the feeling of Southern California in a unique and true-to-life way. And her work has a sense of humor to it that gives it warmth and life even though her compositions are precise.

š¦I found this book on the shelf of a small lake cabin my family used to stay in sometimes (smells like moth balls, canoe paddles as decor, bunk beds) and devoured it during our stay. This book is slow in the way that Green Card (1990) is slow. The tension builds to a romantic crescendo later in the book and youāre like oh my god!!! Nevil Shute was an Australian author better known for his nuclear apocalypse novel On the Beach that scared the shit out of me in middle school. I recommend A Town Like Alice to people as the best novel youāve never heard of with the caveat that it was published in 1950 and has an unmistakably colonial perspective. Read it if you loved Atonement.
