Apparently the LES is the new photo district with K&M and The Color House opening locations on Orchard Street. Fine with me but my loyalty will always lie with Sammy who is located on Essex right next to North Dumpling. I have been dropping off my film with Sammy for years. Opening a WeTransfer email from Sammy or picking up my hard drive is the same feeling ppl have on Christmas morning or w/e. Sammy’s turn around time is unbeatable - usually within the same day. He’s always greeting you with a smile and has gone above and beyond for me with deadlines, staying open a little later so I can get my negatives, etc. To me, he’s a local hero. Plus you can get one of my favorite cheap meals in the neighborhood next door when you’re done.

When I was an editorial intern at PAPER in college, I sublet a room in Clinton Hill for the summer and would stop by Choice Market every morning before heading into the office (sweaty, nervous and eager). I recently moved back to Brooklyn from LA and found my own apartment in the same neighborhood, just down the street from Choice, which I took as a full-circle sign from something somewhere to follow and lean into. Everything is worth trying on the menu, and one of the baristas has giant, featherdust eyelashes that make my black coffee purchase a bit more exciting.

I’ve been hooking up w a train driver for the MTA for a little bit and there are some major perks. I get train derailment alerts before the general public and other insider info (did u know the fastest subway goes 63 mph?). He owns a home, has kids and has no idea what dimes Sq is. He has to wake up and go to work and has been for over a decade. Also asked me what a “story” was (he doesn’t have insta and never has). So hot!
