Despite reading, and then re-reading, and then re-reading a Terence Conran coffee table book as a child, I have absolutely zero interior design sense. Several years ago I started buying ceramic fruits and vegetables as a joke. Doofpot in Greenport N.Y. was a mecca for Italian ceramics before it closed in 2019; now I spend days scouring Etsy for a perfectly plump tomato. Each one is completely ludicrous and absurd, but they make me laugh. There is obviously some symbolism at play here, trying to freeze a moment of ripeness and wholeness in time.

When we cleared my grandma’s house after she died, none of my cousins wanted the ceramic cabbage because they lack vision, but I am a tasteful magpie. I like ceramic greenery because it makes a space look verdant without someone dming you that you’re overwatering your cacti every time you do a story. In a way, the cabbage is annoyingly similar to the cheap trompe-l’Ɠil you can get at Arket but it most certainly isn’t the cheap trompe-l’Ɠil you can get at Arket. It’s not an antique, I don’t think. Nobody in my family own any real art but we have a reasonable collection of Tate prints between us. It’s just a matter of time until the cabbage gets knocked off its pedestal and smashed to smithereens and I have to re-live the loss of my grandma (we were close) and then do a massive cope. Until then, it prospers.

These dishes are my all time favorite. They make me so happy. Food always looks really beautiful against them as well. The weights and sizes are unique as well - the dinner plates are exquisitely huge, I don't know if they make the dinner plates anymore, it looks like you could contact them to ask about a special order. My mom bought a lot of these in the 90s and I have them now. We also use seletti toilet paper plates - they’re cheeky and fun and the tin ones are unbreakable and good for kids.

I like funky intriguing bowls and kitchen-ware especially from the past. When did we lose the plot.

My perfect relationship with my phone is one where I can send signals but can’t receive them. I call this “going ghost mode:” I can communicate with you via obscure gestures, but you will struggle to summon me. It’s a great way to spend the weekend—phone in do not disturb, at the park talking to my dog, occasionally scrolling Instagram and The RealReal, sending a link or two to a friend but not overdoing it on screen time. It’s 85% touch grass with 15% brain rot. I understand this is somewhat antisocial, but it works for me. I’ll get back to you on Monday (probably).

I think about this album all the time and listen to it even more. Let’s start with the album art—fawn-eyed shirtless Prince with a feathered late ’70s blow out? Swoon. Every song on this album is perfect, soulful, electrifying. If “I Wanna Be Your Lover” doesn’t send a tidal shockwave through your bones, you need to find God. He’s purple.

I love Rachel Howe’s tarot deck and handbook and seek her out whenever she’s in New York—which is rare. In the times I can’t find her IRL, I visit a URL version of her deck for a daily pull. A nice way to center yourself each morning.
