I started commuting to work again and Vox's podcasts has been keeping me busy. I love hard facts and learning why things work the way they do, and Vox's Today, Explained has been keeping me busy during my commutes. On other hand, they have another series called Unexplainable, and in contrast, they unpack unexplainable phenomenons like alzheimers and whether the poop astronauts left in space may still carry living organisms.

20 min episodes on all sorts of topics for whatever intrigues you. Short and engaging for the modern attention span, but thorough enough that you have a good understanding of the subject by the end ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Because I feel kinda tired of podcasts, there are too many of them now and a lot of them are spreading misinformation and/or repeat the same ideas over and over again. I went back to books when I decided I needed more knowledge and education. When I need some comfy listen, I mostly listen to soundscapes with no words for my brain to have the rest it needs. I occasionally listen to podcasts once in a while though.

sorry most of these are history podcasts bc that’s mostly what i listen to but there’s a range of topics last week tonight with john oliver (youtube) - he recaps the last week or a specific topic in a very understandable funny yet educational way
conflicted: a history podcast - for something a bit more serious in tone - its deep dives into different events in history especially those that don’t get much attention
book club (bbc) - discussions of books with the authors and a group of readers - so many episodes going back years to choose from
slow burn - season long deep dives into events like the clinton impeachment, lead up to the iraq war, rise of clarence thomas
anthropocene reviewed - has a more hopeful tone - john green reviewing and explaining different aspects of the world like orbital sunrises
contrapoints (youtube) - tackles different topics from a lot philosohical cultural sociological perspective - love the video on twilight us & them - talks about decisive problems in the us from both sides my fav episode is the gun divide
colorless wonderland (youtube) - my fav book channel hes so enthusiastic and has such unique book recs
the morbid zoo (youtube) - deep dives into horror and thriller movies from sociological cultural perspective - she’s so smart and and well read my fav videos are on civil war and sound of freedom
nice try! - exploration of design and its interactions with people history government and more - highly recommend the episode about chandigarh or germania
radio lab - tackles interesting questions that combine law science history sociology - my fav episodes are playing god and eye in the sky
the audio long read - podcast form of long stories from the guardian on a bunch of different topics
more: - throughline - philosophy tube - 99% invisible - the experiment - longform - what roman mars can learn about con law - codeswitch - in our time - audacious with chion wolf - story corps - the daily - ologies

I’ve never been to Disney as a kid and as I grew older I always felt like I was too old for it. I spontaneously tagged along with my family the day before they left and I think that was the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m a huge fan of Star Wars and Avatar, and even as an adult I think I had the best week of my life and I felt like a kid again. I legitimately had real tears of joy on some of the rides. It’s never too late!

While everyone is raving about their trendy nonstick pans, I’m here to bring the spotlight back to cast iron cookware. There’s a huge stigma around how hard it is to take care of cast irons, but it’s really not bad! You just gotta keep using it, and over time, it basically becomes nonstick. This article has sent off a tangent, and now I am a proud owner of a well-seasoned cast iron pan and griddle.

Excessively hiking this year has been so fun, but the other half of the fun is the technical hiking apparel that goes with it - oh, and wearing only hiking gear even when I’m not hiking. I really appreciate Japan’s love for outdoor style and culture. GO OUT’s web magazine has been my daily morning check-in and my biggest outdoor gear inspiration. I recently picked up a few of their physical magazines (it’s hard to come by in the US) and I really enjoy flipping through them every now and then. Contrary to typical magazines that we’re used to, GO OUT magazines are basically beefed up catalogs of goodies and collabs that make for great coffee table content.
