I used to work at the Beggars Group (Matador Records). One of the many things I’m grateful for there was how much folks like Patrick Amory (Co-President of Matador) opened up my mind to so many incredible artists. Patrick does a weekly mixtape on Mixcloud that has been mindblowing. He rips the music from his LP collection and he’s got the goods. Incredible.

- A.G. Cook, GFOTY, Danny L. Harle, Lil Data, Nu New Edition, Kane West (2014) • DJ Mix genuinely the best dj mix ive ever heard. in awe every single time i hear it. every single time; cutting open the skull; removing the brain; washing it in bleach and Red Bull Brand Energy Drink until it shines a metallic white; inject it with pure dopamine; brand it with Red Bull’s logo; insert it back into the skull and stitch it back together with iPhone charger cables. PC MUSIC is, if not the best, then the most interesting label to come out of the last decade, and this mix summarizes (almost) everything that made it what it was. it is Perfectly Plastic and its inauthenticity is routinely pierced by self-damnation. the music, without saying anything of substance at all, says everything it needs to say, and it does so with the exact intent labelmaker AG Cook intends in a clean, concise hour that doesn’t waste a single second, even on its lesser known labelmates. if that isn’t the mark of an incredible artist, i’d find it hard to tell you what is. All Manner Of Hats!

I prefer to work while listening to music, but I get distracted if there are too many lyrics. As a result, I listen to a lot of electronic music, and SoundCloud (and sometimes Mixcloud) is the best platform to hear a DJ set. I made a few mixes during the pandemic, which you can listen to here. I’m not great at physically mixing records — CDJs are easy enough, but beatmatching on wax is a truly difficult craft I respect! — so I often sample a movie quote or YouTube deep cut to transition between tunes. If you want to hear real DJs, below is a collection of sets, mixes, and a couple radio shows I’ve been hitting as of late. Vibe-wise, they lean towards 303s, Drexciya-era electro, early UK dubstep/bass, and film score gems — in other words, downright slappers left and right.

You can't get comfy at home unless you're wearing slippers, and Haflingers are where it's at. Cozy wool felt on a cork bed with a rubber sole, so you don't slip while you're washing your 900th dish for the day. Go grizzlies or bust. Seriously these are the best slippers of all time.

I read every night before bed, and I’ve been on a binge of WW2 history books. With everything that’s happened recently, I’ve found myself turning to times when people had no idea what would happen next and how they got through it.  Donald L. Miller tells the story of the first American Air Force and how airpower turned the tide. Warning, there are some gruesome accounts of how hard it was for so many people. The ultimate takeaway for me was that soldiers were motivated by love over hate to fight – love for their family, friends, and comrades. It kind of makes you think how much we all do for each other in the name of love. Heavy.

I haven’t done the sweatpants thing in quarantine, and as the world continues to spiral out of control, few things have kept me grounded like a classic oxford shirt from Anglo Italian. The London shop is owned by friends Alex Pirounis and Jake Grantham. Their vibe is basically their name; a laid back Italian sportswear look smashed into British old boy.  The collar on the A.I. oxfords are nice and tall, and the fit is not too slim. Also, their denim is FIRE.
