She’s one of my favorite artists. Specifically her performance art videos, and the quality / visual taste of how her pieces in nature are filmed, is exquisite. The way she uses herself as a body within her work is not only captivating, but something I feel I can personally relate to as someone who also uses their physical being as part of their art process.

Juana Molina is one of my musical heroes and I love her approach to life and art. This is a short and sweet documentary (22 min) that gives a glimpse of her home and family life, creative practice, and playful sense of humor. I can’t wait to see her perform later this month.

Anytime I need to be soothed or particularly inspired I’ll type in “Bjork documentary” on YouTube and either watch the one that is the making of Medulla or the one where she’s talking to David Attenborough. I also watch her old live shows a lot. I will really watch any video that has anything to do with her. I love the way she’s so carnal and wild and elemental but also holds this trust in divination - I feel like she merges both polarities of what it is to be a human so beautifully.

She may present herself in this really connect and mystical way, but she is very human. Her artisrtic practice centers in performance, which dives and explores ritualistic aspects of living, so I undertand why she come of as a witch type. I reccomend you watching the documentary she did in Brazil, The Space In Between, in which she explores a variety of local spiritual practices, including João de Deus/John of God, who is now a convicted sex offender and criminal, and can be actually compared to Rasputin as he held such local political and economical power (i reccomend the maintenance phase episode on him, they do a good job debunking his techniques - https://open.spotify.com/episode/3t1hjrqB7cXs9HTWxPqVgU?si=712bb5f30ce54bbf). Though when she recorded the documentary he was still very respcted and the accusations hadn't come out yet, there was already many people exposing him as a con artist. You can see that her enchantment with such things come from the same naivity and somewhat fetishistic views many Europeans, and North Americans have with South American, African and Asian countries and their cultures. For me, this makes it very clear that she is just like anyone who is a little interested in spirituality, someone who is open to exploration but can also be swayed by her biases in this process. Anyway, I also really like most of her work, but I find it important to dismistify her artistic persona, which is now a clear part of a succesufull brand.

Each morning I have one or two dates, a ripe banana with a heaping amount of natural peanut butter and two shots of espresso - either black or iced with oat milk. I strongly value the healing properties found within the food we ingest, I actually find it quite inspiring creatively. I’ll also make sure to drink lots of water with fresh squeezed lemons. I look forward to it every day.

I think falling in love is one of the most beautiful things a human can experience. This movie makes me feel comforted, and reminds me of the art of a shared conversation between two people who admire each other upon first meeting. It's a slow-paced film that an old-school hopeless romantic, like myself, can resonate with. It feels like poetry to watch.

Frogs inspire me a lot and have been a consistent symbol used within my work. My favorite species is called the Vietnamese Mossy Frog, because of their unique bumpy texture. Personally speaking, I aspire to be like the Mossy Frog. Strangely alluring, uniquely charming, and distinctively individualistic.
