class consciousness, mechanical solidarity, kids acting like they’re getting drunk at a saloon that only serves soda. this was a once in a lifetime television event.
Now that I’m nearing 30 I thought I’d check in on Disney and Nickelodeon to see what people my age are creating for the Youths. I was surprised to find this sweet and insightful show about a family of hicks that moves to Big City. It’s silly because it’s for children but it’s also woven with a mix of punk ideals and positive messages. Check it out if you still have cable!
Although it was only once, one of my fondest college memories includes waking up early enough to have cereal while watching an episode of the Reading Rainbow. I've been trying to watch Pee-Wee's Playhouse with Breakfast recently. No phone, just breakfast and a little show. It's nice.
