70s-80s LA band known for their “tribal psychobilly blues” sound. Combining the chaos of punk with earlier influences from American blues & country, led to their unique, raw, almost spiritual sound.

70s punk band that was part of the early punk scene at CBGB. The inventors of psychobilly (a term made for the crazed combo of punk and rockabilly). They have a truly unique sound, and are my favorite to dance to in my room alone at night. They are truly at their best though performing here at the California State Mental Hospital in Napa. Truly deranged.

Californian post-punk band that I have been listening to constantly these last few months. They got their start as a solo project scoring soundtracks for fake horror movies and it eventually evolved into its current form. Personal favorite songs by them: Valley Ghoul It’s in my head Blue Sheen

This perfect band (aesthetically, sonically, historically) epitomizes what I call Lounge Goth, an underrated fusion. The first time Danny ever talked to me, it was at a party called FIST (Fun Is Still Transgressive) and it was because I was wearing a MLWTTKK shirt. I would say if you know you know, because somehow everyone looks confused when I bring up this group (“Kooler Than Jesus”? “A Daisy Chain 4 Satan”? Anyone??), but they were a live act in The Crow and featured on the soundtracks for Cool World and Showgirls so, I mean, come on.

Poet & songwriter best known as the frontman of “Silver Jews,“ and the lesser known “Purple Mountains,“ Berman has a way of exploring the beauty in the darker aspects of life. Berman tragically took his in 2019. He had such a special way with words both as a poet and a songwriter. My favorite song of his, “Famous Eyes” is linked above.

Founded in 1995, Broadcast was an English band that drew influences from 60s psychedelia, electronic, and experimental music. Following the death of their lead singer in 2011, Broadcast has found a new life and a cult following due to the mystery surrounding the band. I’ve linked my favorite album, Tender Buttons above.

Due to the involvement of the US Military Sponsoring SXSW, many bands and artists have opted to pull out of SXSW as protest for the ongoing genocide and Ethnic Cleansing in Palestine. I’m very proud of my friends from Perfectly Imperfect and Baby’s All Right for dropping out of SXSW, and for standing in solidarity with the people of Palestine. Free Palestine 🍉
