i definitely hear it as "hee hee" and not "heh heh". its way cuter with the long vowel sound. its about earnestness and the schwa implies detachment and thus irony...... i'm all about the hee hee's. and oh yes, a hee hee next to ha ha brings out the ha ha's beauty! like a perfect friend........
