the past 2 busses i have caught have been insanely last minute. i Just bought a ticket after my bus was scheduled to leave & caught it 4 minutes after scheduled departure.
The other time, I was walking around with 3 minutes to spare in the wrong direction in manhattan, realized, ran, and found the gate underground.
I have done the same with flights, catching it running on as the last person boarding the plane.
Needless to say, yes i've missed a lot of busses in my time as a chronically late person, but also, it has given me a deep faith in the world working out.

as a person who lives in a city with a functional yet endlessly annoying bus system, i will ALWAYS be a proponent for not getting on the bus with people packed from back to front and instead waiting the extra 7-9 minutes to get a seat on the next one. pulled this gambit this morning and was able to enjoy a nice (SEATED) commute instead of feeling the breath of a stranger caressing the back of my neck and i try my hardest not to fall on them. was i late for work? yes! but only a few minutes!

and you're relatively far away from the station and definitely not making it in time, and the taxi driver is driving so fucking slow even though you told him to step on it, and when you finally get there you're only 3 minutes late but the train already left, and you go through the motions and buy some very last-minute expensive tickets, but nonetheless you laugh and laugh and put on the lipsticks you bought while waiting for the next train.

if you cant get yourself to put your phone away quite yet, just get yourself to look at the room behind your phone, or the real world, as a constant practice. its like when the screen used to go black between eisodes of netflix loading. a reality check. it feels good, i promise. foreground the bavkground, even for a moment. be kind to yourself
