so sweet to read a book together this way! unwinding before bed, getting to talk about it.

My partner and I love finding ways to be more mindful about spending for some date days so here’s my favorites. We go to a pretty/scenic park with good vibes. Bring your water bottle, a book y’all are currently reading, and a blanket. Then parallel read. We end up taking breaks to talk about our book, our thoughts, theories, maybe what we’d do in that situation, and so on! Watching a movie at home that’s already streaming. We dim the lights and grab a snack and/or a fun bev and a fuzzy blanket. Never gets old. At the end we discuss out letterbox rating of course. Last one is kind of dependent of where you live, but where we reside, there’s a free communal ping pong table, so we bought cheap paddles and ping pong balls last year (still in great condition btw) and we love getting a little competitive, moving around, and enjoying the sun.

reading aloud to a friend or husband or partner is truly one of life’s little joys. swapping chapters back and forth is the perfect activity for a day in the park, a rainy afternoon on the couch, before dinner after a long hike on a camping trip, or in bed. i particularly recommend doing this with something silly, like a 1970s pulp fantasy novel or 1950s teen romance from the discount bin of a used book store.
