Eyes Wide Shut meets Tetsuo Iron Man. Moody, atmospheric, dark, and erotic to the point where I felt kind of weird watching it with my friends 🔥Adaptation of the book of the same name by J.G Ballard, and there are some very fun references to book that border on the silly. Def NSFW, but I think it’s a fun Saturday night movie that will have you and the gang going “WTF did we just watch!!’” It's more fucked up than Silence of The Lambs, but less fucked up than Titane or like a Haneke movie.
I also think Infinity Pool by Brandon Cronenberg starring Alexander Skarsgard rocks. Somebody here said existenz and that movie rips. I remember it as more of like a Lynchian sci-fi vibe. Willem Dafoe plays a mechanic named Gas in it. so cool
the formally independent (recently acquired by studio movie grill LOL) River Oaks Theatre was a place where i saw so many beautiful movies and seeing this one rlly sutck with me! twas a feast for the eyes
I remember a few weeks back there was some discourse about how good the band Failure is, and I want to use this opportunity to echo a growing appreciation I’ve been seeing for the 00s indie rock band Pinback. i really mess with their album Blue Screen Life (2001), super fun, melodic, bouncy guitar music with post hardcore guitars, sugary vocal harmonies and buzzy synthesizers. While I think you’d obviously be into them if you’re into like Jimmy Eat World or Death Cab, I also would recommend for fans of The Postal Service, Frou Frou, Blonde Redhead, even like Unknown Mortal Orchestra or Stereolab. this some melancholic indie pop/post-emo with electronic elements and creative songwriting yall. If you a Pinback head, sound off in the comments - what is your favorite pinback riff…
Some people are better at printmaking/visual branding than they are at writing songs and we should not be punished downstream for that!! If you think this might be about you, log out of adobe creative cloud, and hit the rehearsal space lil bro 🙏
