one of my favorite ways to discover new artists. put in the name of an artist you like and it generates a map of other artists you might like; the closer artists are together the more likely youāll like them all. discovered so many gems using thisā¦
(the gnod website has other cool tools like this one but this is the one i use the most)
ways that i usually find new music or artists are:
seeing what kind of music your favourite artists like too or ones that they are friends with, usually see through instagram who they cover/post music stuff with/have as openers on tour/recommend on stories
i use apple music so a lot of my discovery is listening to the radio they make you which is like randomised and a mix of the music u listen to and similar artists which is cool
i think most music apps will have some feature like this but i know for apple music and spotify theres bits on the artists page or album pages where it links similar artists or albums which is pretty cool especially for albums
pi.fyi of course
I know not many people like to discover new music, but this is a good tool for that! If you find a good artist first, then you are actually as entitled to take credit in their music as they are!
german record label dedicated to re-releasing arabic funk and jazz records from the 70s&80s. i donāt speak a word of arabic but the music is so good. so many infectious melodies. perfect blend of funk, jazz, disco, a little psych rock. perfect cooking music. discovered from the ramy soundtrack (v. good show i also recommend this) which features many songs from them. as a starting point i suggest the album āmodern musicā by Al Massrieen. https://youtu.be/am_utNHjclk?si=R4PAGIwTBo_Tn-w_
it has a slightly nebulous definition and might not be all that revolutionary of a concept but it consistently brings joy to my life. i use it as a collection of quotes & lines from film, books, music, and any other form of art and writing that resonated with me. sometimes iāll just write down the quote, other times iāll expand on why itās meaningful to me. but now i have a collection of other peopleās ideas that make me feel seen and speak to me to look at whenever i need it. using a physical journal also makes it more tangible, like iām actually holding the ideas in my hands.
