This book infused more essence into my life in the three small days it took me to read it, and this is a book I will be returning to frequently. Like Maggie Nelson’s Bluets. They impress upon me similar feelings of awe and connectedness, both have given me that a-ha, Eureka! feeling. To feel understood, to feel read by the book you are reading, to feel like you were called to it at the time you most needed it, is a very lovely phenomenon that has happened only several true times in my life. This is one of them.

You can watch this film however you want; it doesn’t care, it’s like looking out a window on a freeway while you’re driving with someone you love; if you are the passenger you can even fall asleep to it then wake up 30 minutes later and see life unfolding and flashing by thru your window once again; you can focus all your attention on it too, then fall into a trance. This movie was like a prototype of tiktok.

Iconic comic strip named after the main character, Sanmao, meaning “three hairs” in Chinese, which represents the three hairs on his bald head, presumably due to lack of nutrition from poverty. Incredibly drawn, amusing, heartbreaking stories of this orphan kid and his journeys through poverty.
