i just finished reading this book this week, and it's a beautiful meditation on grief and the life of Quintana Roo Dunne, Joan Didion's daughter who passed away very young. i love Didion's writing and how she describes her feelings and her memories of her daughter's life, and how she deals with aging. it's a very sad book, but i'd recommend!

went to a cinema club - this is what it's all about. community is real! even in the city! it's not all over. i watched natural enemies and boxing helena with my friend and ally charlie. the first was awesome, the second was less so - but arguably more fun. sherilyn fenn is not a star, she is something else entirely.

Film Forum is the OG but Metrograph is younger and hungrier, with a more diverse slate of films and an emphasis on rediscovered or neglected classics. Great atmosphere too, with a restaurant and bookstore. you can’t go wrong!

last week i bought a costco chocolate cake because i felt like it, and it was so good and it brought me so much joy. sometimes one needs to eat cake for breakfast. and that’s okay.

i know this isn’t a new concept but i went to the movies on my own for the first time today (i saw “civil war”) and i genuinely enjoyed it :D you get to take your time getting ready and when to show up at the theater and you can get your own popcorn… a very fun movie experience (especially if the theater is mostly empty :D)
