Blondie is the ultimate New York, New Wave band. Debbie Harry is an icon for the ages and I'm convinced I will play her in a gritty a24-produced biopic. The band didn't pop off until Debbie was around 31 and defied expectations becoming an international sensation in a youth-based culture. I saw them play two nights in a row at Pier 17 in the summer of 2022 and even though I was pretty much sober, I felt like I was rolling. That's how electrifying their music and performance is. Debbie's memoir Face It is one of my favorite rock memoirs of all time. I was Debbie for Halloween. I'm obsessed.

Caroline Polachek at FWB FEST (2023): Experienced an ego death, transcended space and time, believed in true and everlasting love, and had physical and sonic proof that angels exist.

It was mere months before "Nevermind" would change the entire pop universe, sweeping away the hair bands, the bullshit, the last vestigial remnants of the 80s that came before like so many tumbleweeds.
THE SETLIST OMG: Aneurysm, Breed, Love Buzz, In Bloom, Stay Away, Radio Friendly Unit Shifter, On a Plain, Sliver, I think Polly was the encore if I remember right (it was a long time ago).Β
Satyricon was a shitty, dumpy, dark little club (the CBGB of Portland basically) with smoke crusted ceilings and a permanent bad smell, I think it might have held 400 sweaty bodies, max? The venue handed out free bottles of champagne to celebrate new year and during the opening sets, a bunch of bottles had been thrown against the wall and broke -- Krist Novoselic came out onstage, swept away the glass, and played barefoot as he always did.Β
The year punk broke. It went mainstream. All my favorite noise/sounds were now headed to MTV and the radio and our little lives changed forever that night. (Supposedly Kurt met Courtney there so his did too, ha).

My mother always told me to "wear lipstick!" but I never took the advice until now. I spend my nights working in a r*staurant and sometimes putting on a smokey eye that looks equal parts intentional and equal parts slept in is a pain in the ass. So I heed my mother's advice and put on a red lip and nothing else. It's chic to the point that my coworkers have asked me "Where's your lipstick?" when I don't wear it.
