frontman of deftones and probably the coolest guy in the history of the world. whenever I feel bad I just watch any deftones music video and his dance moves allow me to ascend. He was doing shit we have never seen before and haven’t seen since!!!!! watch the be quiet and drive far away video to understand what I mean. one second he’s posing like Jesus, then he’s doing his little-shy-guy-face, then hes splashing the boys with a hose, then he’s flapping his wings and trying to fly. Just the coolest guy on the entire planet . if you know him can you please get him on this app ❤️

His lyrics are so poetic and meaningful, music arangment always surprises with novelty, he plays so many instruments, does all his mixing and mastering AND has impressive vocal skills out of this world! 🛸 BUT, he is so much more than a musician; he is an activist, a philosopher, a great empath AND also wonderful to look at - just crazy attractive in all ways. CHECK HIM OUT, HE WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE 🖤

New Jersey may have Bruce, but Massachusetts has Jonathan- a guy who has always been unapologetically himself whether it was being totally sober in the 70s, writing pleas for tenderness in a genre known for bravado, dancing in lesbian bars, or driving down to NYC every weekend to be Velvet Underground's biggest fan before anyone else was. a guy who despite being a rock legend, spends his days installing pizza ovens around the san fransisco area. I've seen him live a few times now, and watching him play his sweet silly songs in an unapologetically sincere + sort of autistic way is somehow just as transgressive as the proto-punk he invented with The Modern Lovers over 50 years ago. I can't help but smile ear to ear for his entire set. effortless humor and charm. Something that's also stood out to me after seeing him live a few times now, is the way he recontextualizes the classics. When he played "Old World" in 2022 he changed the lyrics to recognize how some things should be left in the past rather than simply romanticizing it. And last night he played with the iconic "Pablo Picasso" to focus less on the swagger of Pablo, and more on how that type of guy is actually kind of an arrogant creep. Angel Prost (of Frost Children) wrote a great essay on Jonathan's reinvention for her email-only newsletter a few years ago, if you'd like to read it I'm sure I can dig it up for you. From last night- When I was a kid, I wanted to be an oil painter. I was obsessed with colors. Then I heard Velvet Underground and saw you can paint with a guitar Anyways...if more people were a bit more like Jonathan the world would be a better place. A huge inspiration to me!

I remember a few weeks back there was some discourse about how good the band Failure is, and I want to use this opportunity to echo a growing appreciation I’ve been seeing for the 00s indie rock band Pinback. i really mess with their album Blue Screen Life (2001), super fun, melodic, bouncy guitar music with post hardcore guitars, sugary vocal harmonies and buzzy synthesizers. While I think you’d obviously be into them if you’re into like Jimmy Eat World or Death Cab, I also would recommend for fans of The Postal Service, Frou Frou, Blonde Redhead, even like Unknown Mortal Orchestra or Stereolab. this some melancholic indie pop/post-emo with electronic elements and creative songwriting yall. If you a Pinback head, sound off in the comments - what is your favorite pinback riff…

I loved this band for a while but I started listening to this album after someone from work played Moonchild for me (unreal song). Awesome Shibuya-kei/electronic vibes throughout, but also filled with super nerdy musical references (metal, lounge, 90s hip hop). Yeaaaaah its Kind of like if the Frost Children listened to Stan Getz and Dan the automator instead of Skrillex and Fall Out Boy. And if they were from Japan instead of like probably Minnesota or Connecticut or whatever. Sean Lennon was in the band at this point that's pretty cool. Miho hatori is so goated too I just learned the she was the original voice of Noodle in the Gorillaz. Also this cover is fire, looks like Michel gondry adaptation of I'm blue daboodeedabodie! Fav tracks: spoon, clouds, moonchild For fans of: Cornelius, stereolab, early Bjork, everything but the girl
