obviously phil spector is evil, but goddamn, look at him. look at his face. he came to work, to make hits. he’s not effing around. next time you hit the stu: wear a suit. cultivate your vibe, foster your essence, show everyone you are here to work and make banger after banger.
I love doing the most. I have an EP coming out this year that I finished at Electric Lady, and every day I would see how dressed up I could get. Knee-high Telfar boots with a vintage blazer for vocal tracking days; slacks and loafers for days laying on the couch editing. It made me take myself seriously, like I was an “adult,” “going to work.” Sometimes I get dressed up to go to Target or to travel from the kitchen to the living room, just to feel something.
Dress for yourself, not the crowd. I wore this vintage 70s pink floaty cape with pearl appliqués for the Charli XCX Crash tour and despite food poisoning I still had a blast. I wore my huge clown sweater to see Bar Italia and was the most colorful person in the crowd but felt very much myself. For JPEG/Danny Brown I wore my sonic shirt and mary jane ’s and got a lot of compliments on my shoes and was not tempted to go into the mosh pit which worked in my favor. Sometimes I tone it down with colors for smaller local shows, last pic is one of my favorite jumpers that has a ton of pockets so it’s great for concerts. Just be comfortable and feel comfortable and you will be immune to wondering if others around you think you’re cool. My husband and I are going to bladee in october and will no doubt be surrounded by teenagers so I may just bust out the pantsuit for that show.
