no director does it like him. he edits and does cinematography for all of his movies under aliases. he shot a psychological thriller on an iphone 6. he made a black and white silent edit of raiders of the lost ark and got trent reznor and atticus ross to write the score for it. he got daniel craig to showcase his comedic chops in a southern accent two years before knives out. his new movie premiered at sundance the other night and it’s a horror movie shot from the pov of a ghost??? i have so much respect for soderbergh just doing stuff he thinks is cool without being worried about being an auteur
he made “halloween“ so he sorta owns the holiday. like duh the dude is the best - it’s not common to have directors that also score their films and that’s part of why he’s so epic. controlling both sound & vision and really sucking you into these weird movies - his genre is so complex too, not straight horror, not quite comedy i love all his films for different reasons but these are maybe my top 3: in the mouth of madness
they live
the fog
My favorite chrisnol movie is Interstellar & Stephanie's is The Prestige. He just knows what he's doing and the fact that his wife produces his films is hopefully a good sign we can trust the guy
i get why people only think of movies as a social event, but seeing a movie in a theater alone is the most freeing and therapeutic thing that i do in my day to day life.
gone are the moments of trying to pick something that you think a group of people would like. gone is the anxiety of always thinking about what your friend is thinking of the movie as it’s going on. it’s just you and the movie. i love it
i’m tired to hiding my love for the perfect fast food sandwich. it’s the filet o fish. they make it fresh every time. it’s 4 subpar ingredients on their own, but assemble them together and you have a delicious sandwich.
