Really good 50s/60s sci-fi book, a history of America covering the several thousand years after a nuclear apocalypse in the 1960s from the point of view of an obscure catholic monastic order who preserve and worship pre apocalypse relics such as shopping lists and blueprints. Theres something deeper to it than a lot of the other pulp scifi from the era. The end is great, one of those books where you finish it and say “damn” quietly to yourself.

dude who wrote 2001. I dunno what to say except that it is one of the best sci-fi pieces or art i'v ever consumed.i like sci-fi as analogy / modern mythology. the most popular political critiques like star wars and matrix are subliminally about issues swept under the rug in mainstream discourse, but allowed and celebrated in fantasy setting, we see it explode with popularity.with real life or non-fiction we like to pretend things we don't like aren't happening, but we can face them in sci-fi.

Famously Winesburg, Ohio on Mars, also influenced by Grapes of Wrath. A foundational part of my personal canon, adventure and awe and curiosity, religion and philosophy, the best and worst of humanity, short stories that span the first landing on the red planet to its colonization to its last man (Bradbury originally dated his stories to take place from 1999 to 2026, later editions have moved them to 2030-57)

Really interesting collection of short stories that are all connected. Humanity starts to explore and colonize Mars. Commentary on militarism, nuclear weapons, colonization, genocide, racism and much more. That old sci-fi vibe that you can’t find anymore. I read it as part of a class in college that was purely focused on reading different fictional works about Mars. It was awesome.

Rock steady is full of underrated songs imo and this one is one of the best no doubt songs ever except it’s (very obviously) a prince song. It also sounds like a little dragon song. when it comes on in the car I usually restart it at least two times.
