This is the best film you’ll ever watch. It is beautiful, sepia filled, and spewing with the colours of Sydney and NYC. It made me cry harder than ‘the Notebook’ and laugh more than I did watching ‘Bridesmaids’. This film is one of a kind, and (as a composer) the soundtrack is so unbelievably cool. Mary and Max has a place in my heart forever and I won’t ever stop recommending this film. You need to watch it. It is the epitome of bittersweetness and uncomfortable growth and you will learn so much just in your first watch.

i watched this film yesterday and i have mixed feelings on it. i loved scarlett's performance and relate to her character a lot, while i didn't like bill murray's as much. but i love how beautifully japan was captured, as well as the character charlotte's isolation/melancholy. i think it perfectly captures what it feels like to move to a new place or be in a new environment that you're unfamiliar with. the soundtrack was also really good.

So the premise is that this girl’s trying to remodel her suuuper messy home, filled with her mother’s belongings, into her own minimalist office. I mean like, one of those things where you ask, where the f**k are your belongings type of minimalistic. I think that the cinematography and color grading of the movie compliments the character’s taste in design. This is one of those films where nothing really happens, but you kind of find yourself relating to certain situations, so the movie is there up to your interpretation.
