The life of spanish trans icon: Cristina La Veneno which was filled with beauty, drugs & sadness. This series genuinely changed my life, Iāve cried so many times watching it and it showed me a story of a woman who deserved better. With a huge cast of trans women, it just made the experience of watching feel correct. It feels great to know that weāve moved from the era of cis-women playing trans women on TV to trans women telling trans womenās stories. Such a beautifully shot series, beautiful story telling and gut wrenching in the end. I whole heartedly believe that every and any person should watch it. Spanish speaking person or not, I feel like you can learn a lot from this series and truly came back from it with a new perspective into things. PLS WATCH IT.
i watched this last year and iām still thinking about it .. i will recommend it to anyone who will listen! itās a spanish series directed by los javis (known for paquita salas and veneno) and itās about a mother and her two children and her indoctrination into a cultish situation and how this impacts their entire lives. itās just so incredible and the only problem with the whole thing is that i canāt find it with english subtitles except for on the collectorās edition box set of blurays so itās hard to recommend to a more international audience. but if you speak spanish please watch it šš i think it has been released on a streaming platform in other parts of europe as well (france, possibly) but yeah .. itās really well made and really powerfulā¦.
watched this for the first time yesterday and I understand why itās in so many peoples top films. Such a wild and beautiful ride full of complex women. I love how Almodovar writes dialogue like an alien whoās been on Earth for a while, like its never quite how real people talk but somehow it just highlights the central essence of what we talk about and why. I came out of it just like āman I love women so muchā.
I just saw this movie based on true story of a woman whoās family is separated during a time in Brazil when the country was under military dictatorship. It was devastating and beautiful. it captured beautifully familial joy but also the pains of the reality outside their safe space. I was amazed at Fernandaās portrayal in this role. The way she was able to play this character thats so strong yet on the precipice of bursting at any moment and doing her best to keep her family intact. Also loved how they captured Rio and little bits of SĆ£o Paolo (tho Iāve never been to the latter) parts of this film reminded me of Motorcycle Diaries which Iāve just found out is directed by the same director as this film. few other facts I found out about this film:
- the director grew up knowing this family the movie is based on and would frequent visits at their home in which they portray in the film.
- Fernanda (the lead actress) just won a golden globe for this role as Best Female Actor in Motion Picture which her mother won 25years ago. I teared up when I found that out.
- Fernandaās mother is also in this role and plays the older version of Fernandaās character. this film made me cry multiple times throughout in and grew the ache that already exists inside me to go back to Brazil. last year in April I had the chance of visiting Rio and honestly fell in love with everything about it. it felt like home. anyways. highly recommend watching this.
Maybe Iām just psycho but like listening to sad music before going out is so Bible. I want to just feel to the earth before Iām listening to dancing music all night. Even just listening before the pregame when youāre getting ready. It puts a cherry on TOP for my night.
