A couple years ago I discovered Dalí’s painting of Hermes and was obsessed with it. Recently stumbled over this painting of Medusa and I’m similarly enthralled.
i love paintings with monsters. I especially love walking around a museum and suddenly my sight is blessed by a gorgeous gorgon. An artist makes a lot of choices when depicting a monster. I find it interesting to gaze and ponder upon them.
This post is dedicated to Cetus in "Perseus frees Andromeda" by Piero di Cosimo.
made in the late 1400s, giant triptych of ~7 ft x 12.5 ft
saw it at the museo del prado in madrid and was absolutely awed by its fantastical and chaotic nature, changed my life, i got one of the little guys tatted on my thigh
i have a lot of posters on my walls, one of them is this painting. i learned about it in my a european history class i took in high school and have been obsessed since. i like to get lost in it. there are so many tiny details that are so fun to look at and wonder how he came up with it.
I am by no means traditionally religious, but I fully understand how being in the presence of beautiful stained glass can feel like being with god. ALWAYS stop off at a church on the way if you think it might have good stained glass. The bluebells in the bottom right corner of this made me loose my breath for a moment.
I used to be envious of people who had “MySpace friends” or “tumblr friends”. Now I have PI.FYI friends. Thank you capyboppy for your lovely letter and this illustration of a capybara and a mouse with fruit on our heads, it made me weirdly emotional ❤️
