go 2 a state park near you and just document (photograph, sketch, etc) interesting textures that you come across. moss is an easy one. think of it as the visual equivalent to field recordings. start appreciating minor details 🤓👍

I recently went to a workshop by an collective called simka. we took a 45 minute walk in complete silence and then had to draw or write about our walking experience. people drew some really cool stuff and wrote beautifully. since then, whenever I take a walk I make a note in my notes app of how I felt or what I thought about during the walk. or I draw. the other day I drew a tree I saw while walking. during the workshop I wrote about primordial forms and drew the patterns I saw in the ground. I already love drawing, so doing this really makes my day.

This is a work of art that tries to describe the essence of another work of art. But what it has become for me is art in response to art. I take a photo or find an image and let it inspire a written work. Sometimes this is reversed.
Scroll through your camera roll and write something inspired by a photo, fiction or non-fiction. Go to the museum, the art gallery, look through a magazine, coffee table book, watch a movie, or people and write something that's inspired by something else.
