Pile has put out some of the best guitar music in history (not exaggerating, ask anyone in Allston) and has more recently delved into some really interesting sonic landscapes with the addition of synths. This one in particular is one of my favorites of all time.
absolutely adore pulp and this is their first new album in over 20 years. spike island was the first single for this album and arguably my favorite still. great stuff here.
An epic journey from start to finish.
One of those rare albums I canāt just take bites from - itās all or nothing for me.
Isnāt that the definition of āgreat album?ā
Iām not sure it ever got better for Perry & Co. than their debut.
And this track - āSummertime Rollsā - may be the single greatest song about the joyous, spacious , airy rush of new love and/or drugs ever recorded. Eric Averyās heartbeat bass is featured all over this record and I am HERE for it.
every time I give this a relisten Iām always shocked by how consistently great it is as an album. Obviously, āThe Idiotā gets a tonne of praise and deservedly so, and even though this album helms a lot of Iggy Popās most popular singles, I never see people talking about it as an album and what it does brilliantly. even with āThe Idiotā, Iggy Pop was very much performing under David Bowie wing and environment- a lot of dark and brooding electronics and atmosphere which complimented Iggy well but, here he is definitively Iggy Pop. I think people forget that āpunkā music (which Iggy hated the label of) doesnāt necessarily fall into a genre, more so an attitude of performance. This is proved time and time again in this album, as Iggy covers styles of hard rock, blues rock, ballads and soul- all unmistakably polished with a punk edge. Punk isnāt the music you play, just how you play it (at least I think so), and itās so obvious that Iggy and the band just had a blast recording and performing this, they donāt take themselves seriously, if anything, poking fun at the restrictions of rock and pop songwriting in the process. Yet, the album never feels like itās smarter than you, itās inviting you in to feel the excitement. Such a blast of a record, if you need a pick-me-up like I did today, give this a whirl!
Here it is, folks! Volume I of what could very well be a continuous project. Thank you so much to everyone that submitted - I smiled the entire time I was putting this together. It's best listened to with headphones āŗļø
Liner Notes:
This collection of field recordings is a collaborative effort with users of PI.FYI, each of which recorded their own pieces. It features audio from all over the world and exhibits eclectic moments from London Underground commutes to cuckoo bird calls in Dhaka to the sounds of a century-old American diner. Online communities like PI.FYI often represent a diverse set of people, places, and experiences, but together, the submissions form a living collage that highlights the commonalities of modern life - a unifying message for such a tumultuous time. The first track features all of the sounds played at once in an attempt to create an audio snapshot of an online community but in their offline lives. The individual recordings are unedited except for minor gain and compression adjustments for consistency across the collection.
