When I was 22 my gay guy gallery owner boss made me drive around Los Ángeles for hours looking for this candle to light at an opening. He had me buy four of them with my own card and didn’t pay me back for weeks which was unreal. All annoyances aside - this really is the best smelling candle of all time. The scent is so subtle - wood, resin, honey, tobacco. I only buy it once a year because it’s so expensive, but I truly luxuriate in its scent for the 60 hours it burns. Candles are one of the things I feel like it’s worth paying the big bucks for - you‘re inhaling it! It’s infusing your living space!

Truly the best smelling candles I’ve ever had. The sexiest, most luxe, $$$ scent. This is like when you walk into an 5-star hotel and wonder what they have burning to make it smell that good. And it’s a small, woman-owned, business. I know the price is steep at $42, so if you’re looking for a great gift or something nice for yourself this is a real treat. Love the Night of Joy, Weekend Lover, and Saint Enzo scents—you can’t go wrong. When I’m done with the candles I clean them out and use them as cocktail glasses.

This may be the perfect soup. A friend of my mom’s has had this recipe in her family for like 100 years and won’t share it with anyone. Esoteric ideas about gatekeeping something like a recipe is so weird, right? Anyway, the soup typically comes along when someone dies or something bad happens, cause that’s when you bring people soup. My mom’s partner passed away in fall of 2020 and she received the soup, as one does while grieving. The recipe was asked for and denied. My mom, being a chef, decided to reverse engineer it. She then sent the recipe to her friend and apparently it was identical. My mom rules. Here’s the recipe (from my mom!): Chop & sauté an onion, a carrot & a celery stalk till softened. Blend in 2T dried rosemary. Add 2/3 lb Italian sausage & brown. Add 4T tomato paste & 3-4 minced garlic cloves. When garlic is fragrant add 4 cups chicken broth, 2 cans white beans, 4 cups kale. Simmer 30 mins or so. Season to taste w/ salt & pepper. Add splash of balsamic & some parm & croutons to serve
